This was my first experience with a refractometer when making maple syrup and I found it easier to use and less messy than the hydrometer I used for brewing beer in the past. It worked exactly as described and came perfectly calibrated according to my testing with extra virgin olive oil. I had read a few reviews mentioning the numbers on the scale were difficult to read while others found it easy to read; I did not experience any difficulty and found the size of the numbers acceptable. The size of the instrument is about what I expected, not finding it too large or too small. Overall it was well worth the money and my maple syrup turned out perfectly.

Normally I use a hydrometer when making maple syrup but after reading an article that promoted this refractometer, I figured I'd give it a try this year. It works really well and is much less mess than the hydrometer. Don't get me wrong, they both are useful and I will continue to use both but this thing is a game changer. SUPER easy to use AND to clean. Not nearly as fragile or messy as the hydrometer and makes it easier to pinpoint my sugar content to within .5 brix. The instructions state that it is calibrated before shipment but I found it was off by abount 1 brix. Super easy to calibrate using the included Screwdriver. HIGHLY recommend.

This is a great little tool. I'm a newbie to making maple syrup. At the time, the hydrometers looked to difficult for me. I was concerned that I couldn't do them right or read them wrong. I also didn't have the money for it And the metal cup needed for the syrup. So, I decided to give this a try. It worked awesome!! My syrup turned out perfect everytime. It's very to use. Put a drop or 2 of the syrup on the lens to totally cover it, put the lens cover on and read, that simple. I wish the numbers would be bigger for those of us that wear glasses but that's just me, lol. You can't beat the low price for an awesome tool. Really nice case it comes in for storage. Cushioned very protected. I don't leave reviews but I had to on this one. As a beginner, this couldn't have been easier.

This is very easy to use and has a much better than I expected. I used refractors in my job before I retired. Since I started bee keeping I thought it would be a good idea to have one to check honey moisture levels. I actually am super impressed with this unit. I can read the scales much easier than the ones I used that cost a couple hundred dollars. I have checked the accuracy and find it to be spot on. For the money you cannot go wrong.

This is a quality refractometer for a bargain price! It comes in a solid case, lined with foam. Also included are instructions and two pipettes.The calibration took no time at all. Just a few drops of EVOO, a tweak on the calibration screw, and you're ready to go with a dialed-in refractometer. Not to mention, the display is very clear when held up to the sunlight.This is a great tool to have in your beekeeping kit.

We used it this year to make sure the honey was at the correct water content. It worked well and seems to be a well-built piece of gear. Comes with a case, which is nice.
