Book does a decent job describing the information. I particularly like the numerous example problems which I have found useful for studying for my class.

Nicely Updated
Explanations are lucid and a high quality reference. I had an earlier version and really enjoying reading this updated version. It has R code and very insightful, clear examples how to apply Bayes' formula. I highly recommend as a reference.

Worked well for my class
This book worked very well for me, but it may also have to do with how the professor taught the course, which aligned very well with material in the book.

Horrible text book. Do not use e-text!!!
I love math, but this is the worst textbook I've ever seen. Whatever you do, do not think you can manage with the e-book! Examples keep referring to other pages in the text and you cannot quickly flip back and forth. Even with the hardcover, it's nearly impossible to follow a sample problem from beginning to end. The book uses obtuse math jargon and as many symbols and greek letters as possible to explain simple concepts. It provides z-tables but never explains how to use them. It does not even give a simple reference to all the symbols that are used so you can refer back when you discover a symbol again three chapters after it was introduced. Frustrating!

Death by 1000 pages
This tome is complete, but it should be condensed. Many times I felt like the concepts should take only a few pages to flesh-out, but the authors seem to take pleasure in burying you with example after example and redundant exposition. Maybe some people like this form, but not me.

The book is very wordy, but important ideas are not really carved out. They might be mentioned, but since there is so much text and there is no distinction between "just text" and "this is important", I repeatedly missed important key points and had to spend time re-reading many parts. I think this could easily be improved. Major point: Formulae are given without explanation where they come from. This is so disappointing for a math book! This really prevents from building a strong foundation of the topic which is clearly not the formulae which you can always look up, but the underlying ideas which led to the formulae. I feel like this is a typical school book where kids are taught algorithms but not a profound understanding. So it teaches you how to do things but often (sometimes it does) not really why. I'm not saying this book is totally useless. I like very much, that there are basic numerical examples. This you can often not find in other books, so here, the authors make an effort and take your hand to help you relate a formula to a real use case, which I appreciate. Also the book covers a lot of material! If there is no time to explain where a concept came from, the authors could add a reference for the reader to learn more about the topic. All in all I'd say a standard math book that could be improved to be a great book by a good editing process. Of course, this is my personal opinion and other people with other goals, e.g. who want to learn how without bothering about every why, may find this book excellent. So - its all relative.
