A great Bluesman
In 1970 I discovered the diversity of music CBS were putting out under their Sounds of the 70's banner. After seeing a short review of Johnny Winter's version of Johnny B. Goode I bought the single and both of his albums out at that time. Saw him for the first time at the Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music in July 1970, and followed his career ever since. Saw him a few times over the years , during the good and the bad times , plus his planned appearance at the Bishopstock Festival when although he had to cancel his performance he came out on stage to a rousing reception. Never thought I'd get the chance to see him again but thanks to Paul Nelson , Scott Spray and Tommy Curiale his career came nearly full circle the last few years of his life and I saw him a couple of times more. He seemed rejuvenated again and back to playing the Blues. Then four years ago as I came in from work my son Chris told me he'd died . My thoughts went back to the mid 70's when to be honest I didn't think he'd have still been with us so long , that he was going the same way as Jimi and Janis. Thankfully we have a lot of music to remember him by. Also this wonderful book by Mary - Raisin' Cain telling his story , warts and all, if you're a fan of Johnny this book really is a must have.

Great read for blues fans
Well-written, sympathetic and honest view of the legend. Gave me a fresh appreciation of his music to know more about the context in which it was made .

Long overdue
The only thing that this lacks is a proper genealogy. If anyone can add one, perhaps the publisher would consider issuing a new edition.

fantastic guitarist, ruined by drugs and tattoos
fantastic guitarist , ruined by drugs and tattoos. The book is a bit rambling and may shatter your image of such a talent.
