This book makes her one of my favorite authors as well
Cloonan is already one of my fave comic artists. This book makes her one of my favorite authors as well. Spooky, sci-fi horror that is hard to put down.

Good, not great
Checked out from my local library, thought I'd review here.I'm kind of a "late bloomer" when it comes to graphic novels, being in my late 30's, so I'm reading anything that catches my eye. I like sci-fi, so this seemed like a solid choice. I have to agree with most of the other reviewers: the graphics are amazing, the story has potential, but the dialogue gets a bit confusing and "schizophrenic" at times. It's interesting enough that I'm looking forward to the second volume, due in July 2017. I'm hoping that the resolution of the second story arc makes the first one more understandable.

Wonderful
Highly recommend this to anyone, who wants to find dark sci-fi graphic novel. Good story, beautiful visual storytelling. Design of the ship 10/10. :)

A creepy mystery set in space that works on all levels
'Southern Cross, Volume one' by Becky Cloonan with art by Andy Belanger is a pretty decent SF/Mystery. It offers the perfect blend of intrigue and creepiness.Alex Braith steps aboard Southern Cross, a tanker heading to Titan. As the story unfolds, we learn that while most of the passengers on board are heading out to become miners, she is there to discover what happened to her sister. When her roommate disappears, and she learns the room she is in is not what it appears to be, she sets out to find out what is going on. The effects of space on the ship add to the weirdness on board, and she isn't sure who she can trust.I really liked the story this told. The mystery, even though it's on a large ship, felt confined. Alex is obviously trapped on board, and there are people with strange motives. The mystery feels pretty solid (even if we don't discover everything in this volume) and the SF elements work really well. Rather than feeling like one element or the other is pasted on, this creates a seamless whole.I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Diamond Book Distributors, Image Comics, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Strong Space Horror
I'm biased because space horror is a sweet spot in my reading interests. I love the art, and the strong lead character. The series falls apart after this first volume, but I continue to return to this volume 1.

Great story, no ending
This would be an all-time favorite if not for the lack of a Volume 3, and the complete lack of closure or ending to the tale. There really needs to be some commitment to finishing a story or reprints having an "Incomplete Tale" label.

Awesome art, exciting sci-fi story.
Recommending this book to all sci-fi loving comics nerds everywhere. Follow Alex Braith as she looks into the mystery of her sister's death on the slightly claustrophobic ship Southern Cross on its way to Titan.
