The V300 model is rated at 300 lumens. I would hazard a guess that, technical writing team not quite up to snuff (hence the omission of lumens), that this model V1000 is probably rated at 1,000 lumens. Not the top dog but better than most.

To actually correctly answer your direct question, the 18650 refers to a special size rechargeable battery. It is NEITHER AA or AAA (it has a larger diameter than AA or AAA). You must either use an 18650 (which again, is neither AA or AAA size and is one single rechargeable battery). OR, you can use 3 AAA batteries instead. There is a battery adapter inside the flashlight that you remove and insert 3 AAA batteries in the adapter. The adapter is then re-inserted in the flashlight battery compartment OR you remove the adapter and use one single 18650 battery. The overall diameter of the 18650 is almost the same diameter as the (3-AAA) battery adapter. Either method will work.
