Cairngorms

Chris Townsend's "The Cairngorms" is a pocket-sized guide to the Cairngorm massif deep in the Highlands of Scotland. This rugged plateau is home to multiple Munros and a subarctic climate unique in the British Isles. Chris Townsend identifies eleven hiking routes, attacking the mountains from different directions for a unique set of trekking experiences.Each hiking route includes a narrative description of access points, route of travel and points of interest, along with a 3-D map. The book is liberally illustrated with a stunning set of photographs of the Cairngorms by noted outdoor photographer Colin Baxter. They provide a good sense of both terrain and of the grandeur of the range.Townsend's hiking routes are meant to appeal to a range of abilities, but these are not casual walks. Distances are significant, and if the scenary is stunningly beautiful, it is also home to some rugged ground and unstable weather conditions. "The Cairngorms" is very highly recommended as a walking guide to the fit and the prepared.
