There seem to be a lot of differences in opinion about the Charge 5 and I think a lot of it depends on what you are upgrading from and whether you are a serious runner/sportsperson. Personally I love my new tracker but I upgraded from an Inspire so the Charge 5 offers me a lot more functionality with the heart rate monitor and the more detailed sleep data etc. I am able to get a lot more information than I could before and I'm finding it very interesting and useful - I am taking advantage of the 6 months premium membership and enjoying the extra stats but not sure that I will keep it afterwards. I especially love the colour screen - the joy of being able to read the screen in the sunshine! I did try the screen always on function but it is very dim so you can't really see it and all you do is eat up the battery so doesn't seem like a useful function. I am not a runner so I can't comment on how good it is for that but I love the active minutes and find myself walking that bit more briskly to earn more. I know there are some issues with the GPS but I always have my phone with me and use Strava to track my routes - even if I took up running I can't imagine that I would ever want to go out without my phone! The battery life is great but does mean you have to consciously check the battery level rather than just charging every couple of days otherwise I suddenly discover it is low just when I'm about to go out. Having said that it does charge up really quickly so you can just pop it on charge for a short time to top it up if necessary. I thought I would upgrade the strap as soon as I got the tracker but actually I find it stays done up, is very comfortable and I love the way the end tucks in. I may get a new strap at some point but I don't feel desperate for one. If you have had a Fitbit before you will be familiar with the app and I find it very user friendly with lots of useful things to track. I have issues syncing with my phone but its a Huawei and I know I just need to put up with that until I can upgrade to a different phone so I'm not letting that affect my rating.

Yes you can get cheapo fitness watches 30% the price of the Charge 5 (UK), but I tried one of those last year and it was a total waste of time. Display was virtually invisible in daylight, accuracy was poor and functions very limited. The Charge 5 is head and shoulders above them. The display is awesome, the navigation easy to use and intuitive and the supporting phone app very informative and helpful. Of course, it doesn't offer the accuracy and functionality of apple and android super smart watches, but frankly, I am not there yet. (I dont really need functions that I use my phone for on my watch as well). My wife was so impressed with the positive impact the watch had on my fitness regime she got one as well! She loves it just as much as I do. I bought a different strap as I did not get on with the rubber one it came with (I have sensitive skin) but that was no big deal. My wife was super happy with hers. Battery life is amazing. We leave our watches on day and night and only charge once every five days or so... We've had the watches over a month now and have no regrets - though I am told not to expect much more than 18 months 2 years life expectancy. Time will tell and maybe I will update this review as and when it expires! If you're looking for a good entry level fitness watch to help kickstart your health plans then look no further. Pete (UK)

As usual, I like to test a product a little while before to write a review. The Charge 5 is a very good device but there some minor issues that Fitbit should address. I bought the tracker at the end of November and I thought that the Heart rate measurement was completely inaccurate, so I decided to contact the costumer service and after trying any possible solution they sent me back a replacement that actually is working fabulously. So a great positive feedback about the costumer service that was very fast to solve my problem. Anyway, to simplify I will do a little list with the positive and negative aspects of the tracker. Positive: -It is reasonably accurate compared to professional devices for tracking heart rate, steps, distances and sleep while compared to other fitness tracker it is excellent -The battery life is great, I manage to do 8 days despite daily training with the GPS in dynamic modality -There is the ECG reader Negatives: - The straps are horrendous. I had a pretty bad irradiation on my skin and they smell like a corpse after each training - The ECG is a gimmick. The atrial fibrillation is usually an arrhythmia that cause a very fast and irregular heart beat but the tracker cannot do an ECG if your heart beat is more than 120 bpm. This means that it is almost useless. In conclusion, the Fitbit Charge 5 is very good. Excellent heart rate, steps, distances and sleep tracking compared to other fitness trackers. However, the choice of the straps is questionable considering that I am not the only who suffered of skin irritation. Same thing about the ECG, what is the meaning of this feature if it is pretty much unusable to catch an atrial fibrillation when it is needed?

I bought the Charge 5 at launch, so I was a bit concerned by the reviews about poor GPS tracking as that was one of the key reasons I wanted it (that and the colour screen). I've found it to be comfortable, it does everything it is supposed to and my experience of the GPS tracking is that it is very good. Battery life is excellent, it obviously depends on how you use it but I get about a week between charging up. I'm using the free 6 months trial of Fitbit Premium at the moment, I doubt I will continue with that as it seems to offer very little that I need above normal functionality - but it's a free trial so I can't knock it. Pros: Functionality is good, has all the features I need. GPS tracking, heart rate tracking, step count, all seem accurate. OEM strap is comfortable to wear all the time - I haven't felt I needed to try other straps yet. Great battery life Cons: The screen, while colour, isn't as large or as bright as my old Samsung Gear Fit 2 (from 2016). Related to the above, the watch faces aren't as vibrant or detailed as I would like. The device has frozen a couple of times, needed to be resurrected from the app. I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I could due to the cons above, but if you want a good all round tracker then the Charge 5 is a great option and I would recommend it.

Where do I start with this item? It gets a single star for its design ... visually it is sleek and modern, with a hint of JLC Reverso (a Swiss watch legend) that I'm betting one of the design team owns and took styling hints from, but thats it for the positive. This is without a doubt, the worst piece of modern tech i have ever purchased. I've had 2, one lasted a week, the other lasted 10 days ... and to make things even more bitter to swallow, FitBit charge for the use of their app (which in my case, I have not been able to use due to the bands not working as they are supposed to do) ... they charge an extortionate amount in my opinion, nothing short of shameless profiteering off of the back of the pandemic in my mind ....... add that, mixed with the fact that they released an item that is far from fit for purpose, and it will see me boycott their products from here on in. The 1st Charge 5 would not update the firmware ... it took 2 days of trying and when it eventually did update (it could'nt be used until it did so), it would frequently not be recognized by the app, would reset itself and was basically useless. So back it went for a replacement ... wrong decision. The 2nd Charge 5 actually seemed to be what I had originally expected, it updated, synced with the app and we were off and running within the hour. Until it needed charged up a week later ... then it went in to retirement mode. The screen wouldnt work, it disappeared as far as the app was concerned and when the screen did work, it had reset to factory settings. I did everything recommended online, reset, log out of app, remove from app, remove from phone, remove app, re-download app, re-sync with app and on and on ........ keep in mind this is supposed to be a plug and play item ........ I am more than familiar with tech, so for it to frustrate me to the point of giving up completely(?), lets just say that its the first device in more than a decade that I have had to give up with, it is simply that flawed ...... this is a device that should never have been released in my opinion. far too many faults/glitches, too many issues with software, and charging for use of an exceptionally basic and propitiatory app is shameful. The device is well named Charge. Charge too much to purchase Charge for the app Charge it and its useless The only thing that is not charged is my motivation to buy another FitBit device. Save your money, your time and your mental health and purchase something else.

If you are going to look at a Fitbit and get the most out of it, then the Premier membership is a must! It is only with the membership do you get all the functionality that turns this from a simple tracker to a personal focused health device. The premier membership comes with a whole range of services. If it is a simple tracker then there are cheaper alternatives; pays your money, takes your choice! The Charge 5 is a great upgrade to my Inspire HR and a worthy replacement albeit with the known issue with the watch strap clip issue!!!!!!!!! If you are not aware the 'pebble' is attached to the strap by a very tiny spring loaded clip which seemingly, with not much more than a tug comes away! Very, very easy to loose as it so small and there are no Fitbit replacements for it! There are couple of online companies that sell a replacement but the reviews are very mixed! You can buy a pebble holding watch strap which is what people buy that have the issue, stopping you throwing it away. It seems a very small complaint but it is a significant design flaw, have a look at the Fitbit community page. Anyway mine came away as above but I have managed with a watch making toolset managed to fix (for the time being) the issue. Now the aesthetics & functionality. It sits great on my wrist and looks the business. I swapped the original silicon strap as it doesn't breathe. I have ended up with a rash underneath as it captures, soap, body lotion, water and what ever ends up in a swimming pool! I bought an adjustable nylon strap on Amazon and it works a treat. Three weeks no rash! The increased functionality of the Charge 5 is great, allowing me to train smarter (with a Readiness score) which works! The more you train, the greater the physical stress the lower the scoring and a suitable training recommendations are made. I love the Fitbit app and is very comprehensive and detailed and is easy to follow. The screen on the Charge 5 is excellent and the glass is scratch resistant. It is light, smooth and unobtrusive, and therefore there is no issue wearing 24x7; and it does capture all nocturnal activity!!!!!!! If you are going to invest in your health this is a great tracker. I am sure there are other equally as excellent trackers out there but you won't have wasted your money, especially if you pick it up at one the Amazon sale days or buy a second hand one from the buy options.

This is my 3rd or 4th Fitbit over a 10 year year period and I've loved all of them. My last was a Fitbit Charge 4. This is probably a personal preference but I don't really like the screen display and find it harder to get to a screen that I want without the button. There's very little difference in functionality in terms of what I use is for compared with the Charge4. In fact the Charge 5 is a bit of a downgrade for me, as it appears that this device doesn't count floors. I really miss that. I only found that out after I'd bought it. It wasn't made clear that this had been removed. Also, it doesn't seem as reliable in informing me that the battery has got low. With all my other devices I would always get an email warning me of a low battery and it was always clear in the app. It seems to be a bit more hit and miss and I've a couple of times where it's just run out of battery without me realizing it. The only reason I went for a 5 instead of a 6, is that I understand that google want you to migrate your Fitbit account across to a google account. That really put me off. Google already has enough data about us. On the plus side, the battery life seems decent enough, but overall it's a fairly underwhelming product.

Love the design of this watch, looks good with any outfit. It tracks your sleep, steps, workouts, heart rate (without any distractions for notifications, as I didn’t switch mine on) etc. And a silent vibrating alarm is something I can’t imagine myself living without anymore!

Ik merk een duidelijk verschil met de Charge 3 en ben blij met de nieuwe functionaliteiten. Het bandje is stevig en wordt minder snel vies dan de vorige versies.
