Q: how many skeins would it take to make about a 6 x 8 blanket?

I would say 8 to 10 depending on the pattern. For a 6x8 feathers and fans afghan I made that fits a queen/king I used 8 plus two more for the border.

Q: I've never used the bulky yarn before. About how many skeins of the big ball are needed for a baby blaket?

It depends on how tight or loose you crochet or knit...but you can get a good size receiving blanket out of 2 skeins. I made a comfort blanket for my granddaughter out of 1 skein. It's not big enough to cover with, it's just enough for her to hold onto while she's sleeping or when she gets upset. I hope that helps.

Q: What size crochet hook is used with this yarn?

Bernat suggests size K. But this yarn is very versatile. I have used everything from K to Q. Mostly I use L and M.

Q: Which color green is it? The darker kelly verging on forest in the first pic, or the brighter lime in the close-up?

Mine was a little darker than a mint green but not as dark as the picture and not even as close to as bright as the lime green.
