A great jigsaw of a novel.
This novel has 6 main characters whose lives come together at the Broken Bar ranch in Canada. It is a regular crime thriller about a serial killer, a victim who got away, with some romance and suspense thrown in for good measure.A Dark Lure is all about hunting and presenting a lure to attract the prey. It is not just about hunting for animals to eat or fish to catch but also concerns attracting people or passing on the truth.Loreth writes a good novel that makes for an entertaining and thrilling read. All the little bits of information thrown into her script are there for a reason and are essential to the plot. There is no padding here to bulk out the pages. Slowly the 6 main characters are drawn together as this story unfolds. Character development is very good and you see this story grow from each characters' point of view. What is nice is how this jigsaw of a plot fits together with all those small details playing their part later on. This is a great novel for spotters of detail. Her vocabulary is extensive and her knowledge of fishing is great. I have no interest whatsoever in fishing but Loreth managed to get across to me the essence of the activity and the importance of the lure. The romance is an integral part of this novel but is not sugary sweet and should appeal to both genders.I really enjoyed reading A Dark Lure although it was not focused on one genre. The editing was spot on and this jigsaw of a novel was very like a successful mainstream television drama targeted to a wide audience at prime time. Generally when you try to please lots of people you are doomed to failure but Loreth has the storytelling skill to appeal to a wide and varied audience. Dog lovers will enjoy this story too as Ace, the German Shepherd, has his important part to play in this jigsaw of a novel. The best part of this novel is the ending but not the ending of the story. Loreth decided for very good reasons, to leave her acknowledgements until after her story finished. These acknowledgements show the whole story from an authors' point of view and this was extremely refreshing for me to read. All in all Loreth has the lure to draw in a wide audience of readers with her jigsaw of a novel which I vote the top score of 5 stars. Thankfully, for all her talk about fishing, Loreth never once mentioned maggots which.really give me the creeps!

Strong characters
This is a good book and was a really nice read after the nightmare of a book I had finished before it!I fell in love with the characters and the landscape. I think White did a very good job setting up each character and all of the characters acted consistently throughout the story. It was predictable in places and I twigged very early on what the 'twists' would be. However, the story was so good that it didn't really matter. There are two reasons why this is not a 5-star:1) The story lost its way slightly in the middle of the book and could have been deleted easily from the book without detracting from the overall story or character development.2) The ending and interaction with the killer was too short and disappointing considering the emphasis on luring and hunting that was evident throughout the entire book.

An outstanding and gripping novel
I cannot believe I've never read this authors work before. It had such integrity, I was hooked from the opening paragraph.A Dark Lure has multiple POV that seamlessly blend to move the narrative forward and build tension, all of the principal characters are well fleshed out and believable. A complex story that was clearly told. This book stayed with me when I had to take breaks from reading it to work, where I had a eureka moment when a major plot point suddenly clicked into place. I got a few odd looks but it was worth it.Sarah/Olivia is a strong, admirable heroine, one you rarely get the chance to read. Cole is a patient, courageous hero who stops running and starts living again once he returns home. Their romance is well written and heartfelt, deeply enmeshed in the wider plot.10✨ out of 10✨

I love Loreth Anne White
After escaping from the Watt Lake Killer Sarah Baker changes her name and runs away. But little does she know, just as her scars are healing, a cop involved in the case manages to lure the murderer out...I love Loreth Anne White. A beautiful blend between romance and crime, she writes exciting plots with believable characters. A Dark Lure had me captivated from the beginning. Intricately woven and elegantly written, she is a complete master at the craft of writing. The beginning was exciting, the middle never sagged, and the ending had me completely enthralled. Loved the characters, loved the atmosphere, loved the plot. Another great read from Loreth Anne White.

Gripping menace and beautiful, original description.
This book hooked me in from the first page and I loved the quality of the writing - beautiful images with a fresh, unclichéd power. The storyline was gripping and the sense of menace was very real. This is a very good book and only slightly downgraded by me because I felt the police officer had behaved uncharacteristically irresponsibly, also, towards the end, words like 'cracked' and 'crackled' appeared too frequently and broke the spell a little. Despite these little niggles I will definitely watch out for this author again an will go back now and read her previous novels.

It's good plot
The storyline and plot are both good but the writing was naive at times. Repetitive and sometimes stretched belief. However, it kept me interested enough to keep reading. Like the previous book I read from this author, you can guess some of the mystery, but there were also parts that I didn't see coming.
