My Human Pet (Imperial Paramours Book 1)

4.5 stars
This is my 1st Olympia Black book. I truly enjoyed the story. It engrossed me, made me laugh a few times, and cry too. The emotions of the characters shine through the page. It is a good book. I will read a few of the other works by the author as well. It is a stand alone with a HEA. Though the ending is left up to your imagination a bit more than many other authors do.The book is about Ensley the MFC. She is abducted by aliens and sold as a pet. She is luckily for her bought by an Imperial captain named Seb MMC. Seb has wanted a pet for a long time. He has researched about them as much as he could. He is very much looking forward to owning a pet and hoping they will help with crew morale as well. Ensley doesn't know what to expect from the gray skinned human looking alien that has taken her onto his ship. Seb as well as most other aliens believe humans are very simple creatures. They have short memory spans. They don't have complex emotions or understanding. They are barbaric and illogical. They are always wanting to have sex, and will have sex with anyone pretty much. Pets must be trained and a firm hand is needed. Seb is an Imperial. Which is a type of alien. They seem to be very genetically close to humans. Though they are more civilized and superior to humans at least in their beliefs. Imperials are encouraged to breed with humans. It is important they add genetic diversity to their gene pool. Their genes will filter out any undesired human genetics. Imperials have gray skin, dark almost black or green colored eyes, and are hairless. Humans being "furry" is prized by Imperials. The book is the story of what happens to Ensley after she is abducted and later becomes Seb's pet. Ensley is kept on the military ship that Seb is the captain of. Seb and the crew are on a war ship. Though they have not been actively at war in their lifetimes. All the members a of the crew are Imperials like Seb. Ensley and Seb's relationship develops over time. Seb comes to see that Ensley and other humans are more advanced than it is believed. That all the human experts are mistaken in their beliefs about humans. Seb and Ensley grow to care for each other a great deal. Though they never use the word love. It is clear they feel it for each other. The crew cares for Ensley as well. The story does have a few twists. It is mainly about Seb and Ensley's relationship. There are many outside forces that control the relationship in ways. The book is worth checking out. I did enjoy it a good deal. Hope you do too.

Entertaining
Fun to read with excellent world building, though occasionally hard to follow. This is the second book of hers I've read, and both have been very enjoyable

Controversial and thought provoking!
To be upfront, this was a disturbing read and will not be for everyone. It was well-written, but almost too realistic to be entertaining. I found Ensley to be both at times, coldly pragmatic in her response to her abduction (which I found refreshing) and stupidly slow in her development as Seb's pet. Especially when she was first brought onboard the ship. I also found Seb to be slow, and lacking empathy on many levels; but specifically about the installation of a translation chip. He knew it was a possibility right away and wanted to communicate with his pet, knew he could do it, but still let others talk him out of it until almost the very end. Not believable.I have owned a lot of pets over my life, and never have I treated any of them the way he treated her, this goes to his lack of empathy. And no I don't think any of them are sentient either. I most especially don't allow others to abuse my pet. He abused her on multiple occasions, allowed others to abuse her and treated her after a while like you would a slave. Not a pet. Which indicates that he thought she was sentient but less than, much quicker than the explanation of the author. So even if YOU believe that he believed his government propaganda about her lack of sentience - still we rarely have sex or breed with our pets - unless we are some pretty sick 'puppies'. History has shown that all slave owning societies have both committed sexual congress and produced children with their slaves. His actions make him really stupid or totally lacking empathy. Either is disturbing for a male lead in a romance.Or we can believe something else...As a writer, I found it interesting, but I would place it more in the literary, dark erotic genres. Despite the author's explanation to the contrary at the end of the book (which she was kind enough to provide, and I read) there is no HEA or HFN for the couple - there is one glaring plot hole. How is both Seb and Dylan visiting her on earth if the humans and the IGC didn't sign a treaty? Or are we to imagine that the work in question is totally a work of Ensley's fictional mind done strictly for monetary value and not to be trusted at all (which is a suggestion of the author). On a romance level either action negates a true HEA or HFN. Hmmmm. See what I mean by thought provoking?I rated it three stars because I rarely find a book that made me deeply ponder the subjects the author puts forth. For me it gets points for being well-written, controversial, disturbing and thought provoking.Like I said, this book is not for everyone. If you are wanting romance, it won't be for you at all. To me it was too realistic to be truly entertaining which is what I look for in the romance genre as a reader.

Engaging short read when your choices are taken
I enjoyed this fictional read by Ms. Black. She addressed some universal fallacious ideologies that plague humanity. In a manner that wasn't moralistic but a matter of fact. Her story telling was entertaining, engaging, and emotional. Appreciate how she handled the spicy scenes within the context of story, which truly isn't romantic based on the subject matter.

Not sure
Not sure where to start with this review. Going in I thought it was just another alien abduction book. Upon further reading it became clear that the author was using this book as a platform to provoke thoughtful reading. Not to say that romance books aren't thoughtful, but if I wanted a lesson I would have watched a TED talk.. Regardless, the writing was good and overall it was an entertaining read. If you are looking for a regular romance, this isn't the book for you though.

An excellent novel but sometimes very sad
I cared a great deal about the protagonist & am happy about the ending. Even though I'm a man, I found it easy to empathize with her. I recommend this book to anyone who is human enough to feel empathy.

Fun and Clever
This was a surprisingly fun book. It was sometimes crass and maybe written by an ESL student, but I'm glad I read it. On second thought, I'd think twice before taking any candy from the nice strangers.

Great read, very emotionally elevating story
This is the first book i have read for this author, and I really enjoyed it. It was a roller coaster of emotions. Ensley and Sab didn't have a typical love affair. It was mature at many levels. It's not a typical love story ending but a very practical ending. However, I would have loved for Ensley and Sab to be together in the end or may be an epilog about their life after many years to get some closure,That is why i have rated it 4 stars.

This will definitely push your boundaries around
I enjoyed this book thoroughly, even cried a little. At first I thought, this book would be good for those with the play role kinks. But when you really think about it, and consider this position if it were to actually happen to you personally, this is quite light. There are so many barriers between cultures, religions, expectations and biased views, it makes it hard to read for some. But the MCs case, she handled it exceptionally well. As did the aliens once they realised they were lied to and breached the communication barrier. But I do love the end, making you question if any of these authors have had experience in this regard (lol)As a fictional novel, it did feel very quick to end. But in that situation, what could you do ? (Dramatic drum roll) become pirates! Or turn in to a massive action packed novel and fighting the imperial race. No, there's some eye openers in here that will make you question our civilisation.Thank you Olympia black

great book
When I first started reading this I didn’t like how the woman was kidnapped to be sold as pets and her ordeal about nobody understanding her or the other way around but the ending when she wrote a novel about her life then it finished that the only part I didn’t really liked

Good read
I really liked the second half of the book. The beginning I felt too rushed to understand why the women were behaving that way and it had me not liking the main character for the first half of the book. Her internal dialogue made her seem judgemental, ignorant, and petty even for someone abducted by aliens but I started liking it towards the middle when there seemed to be a switch.

sorry I wasted my time on this
The so-called heroine was unlikable and for all her New York bravado, willingly became a sex slave doormat almost immediately.
