Great value, rugged
The title (on Amazon) of this item describes it as 10.2 inches, the (steel) jaws are actually 10.5 inches wide (see photo). The photos on Amazon show jaw dimensions that are smaller than actual.Of the similar (looks is identical to me) Vises available on the net, this was the lowest price I found (allowing for the free Amazon shipping), some of them more accurately specify 10.5 inches. The description on Amazon is not clear about how good this product is, in this review I hope to clear up some of the uncertainty, specifying some of the dimensions that mattered to me.This vise comes in a "NO FRIILS" cardboard box, the box had some tears, the vise was undamaged, and all parts were intact. The "Amazon" projected delivery date was a week in the future, to my pleasant surprise it arrived the day after I ordered it..Without (wood) facing on the jaws they open to at least 15 inches (see photo). The description (on Amazon) discusses lifting the handle to disengage the threads / nut, this is not a feature I needed, and apparently is not on this vise. I checked it before installation and could not see any play to allow the "threads" to disengage, and of course once installed there is no way I was gonna make the holes in the face pads allow the kind of play that would allow that to happen anyway. The mounting plate has 7 holes for mounting, 2 of these holes are tapered (for recessed wood screws) these 2 holes are ideal for mounting the mounting plate to hold it in the correct spot prior to drilling holes for the installation. The mounting plate has 5 more holes for the thru bolting.. I used all 5, likely overkill, the kit comes with 4 metric bolts and nuts, they were too short for my application (2" thick table top), so I used easily obtainable 5/16" bolts / washers / nuts. The jaws as I said are 10.5" wide, I mounted the face using the predrilled tapered 3 holes on the movable jaw.The (2) guide rails are smooth and strong, the clearances are tight, such that even full open there is no noticeable sag.The threaded rod operates smoothly thru out it's range, I snugged it pretty tight with the 14" handle I made for it. No indication that I can make the threads fail. The hole for the handle is 30mm, or 1.181 inches, therefore a readily available 1 1/8" dowel rod works extremely well.In summary, this is a well built "tool" and if you have the room to install / use it, it is a bargain, note there are no instructions included, however if you are the kind of hobbiest that can use a cabinet makers / woodworkers vise, you likely don't need instructions to figure out how to install it in your application..I recommend it and would buy it again if I needed another.

Not strong enough
There isn’t much I like here. I do not like giving bad reviews but this vise isn’t very good. To be fair I do have a weird circumstance for the install but there is a couple of major flaws in design and execution here. The jaw will flex back at the top when tightened. It’s hard to clamp with the top of the jaws which you will do a lot. You have to add your own wooden jaws and handle. I mounted this and added the jaws and there isn’t enough steel to keep the jaws from tilting outward when tightening it. It also racks a lot of you need to only use one side. Additionally one of the tightening screws in the back of the guide bars broke off when using the vise. I took the jaw off and replaced it with a 1/4” steel plate and that solved my issue. Still have the broken screw though. Also there are some mounting holes in the bottom that are just about impossible to get a decent screw in to hold it because they are too close to the casting. A lot of work arounds but I finally got something usable. I would’ve saved a lot of time just replacing the outer jaw with the plate right away. There are no tweaks good enough to fix the flexing issue.

Should have gone with something better
This vise is Okay but far from Good. As other reviews have pointed out already, the hardware is a joke so plan on getting your own but this should be expected anyways because we all build our work benches a bit different anyhow.I expected the vise to have racking issues and my expectations were right on. This vise racks quite a bit so you'll want to make yourself a set of gapping wedges to help out with the side to side racking. The real problem with the racking is the top to bottom movement it allows. Not much to be done there. You'll also want to make sure your face material isn't too tall. If your bench is more than 3" thick for example, the top to bottom racking is a lot more than I'd like. (My bench is 5")I'm pretty worried about the pin that holds the handle. I can feel it buckling when I try to get good pressure on my workpiece in the vise.Speaking of the handle, it's a not a true 1" hole. I measured mine at 13/16 so less than 7/8". I made my own handle using a piece of Cherry I had laying around on the router table with a 1/2" Round over bit. I just had to raise the bit higher in order to reduce the diameter of the handle. My biggest dislike is how many turns it takes for the vise to tighten after it makes contact with the workpiece. Usually when you're clamping something, you want about 1/4 to 1/2 turn of the handle until tight. I'm having to turn this a Full revolution to get snug, then a little more for tight. This is obnoxious to get things in and out of the vice when I'm working and messes with my work flow.Next time, I'll spend a little more for something better. Pay cheap = Get Cheap I guess

No quick Release! No customer support!
The item is not as described. There is no quick push pull mechanism on this piece. If your looking for that, go elsewhere. Customer service and support is non existent. The unit does have a good heft with an impressive lead screw measuring 22mm. Its made of some type of extremely mild steal and cuts and drills easily. I’m assuming that this will tend to flex under high pressure. Sending this one back if I can.
