The Last Chance Library

This is a balm for these difficult times. A lovely read!
If you love books about books, I think you will enjoy this book just as much as I did. Set in a rural English village, we meet a shy, lonely woman and a cast of delightfully quirky characters whose lives are joined through their town library, each drawn to it for various reasons.June’s job as the assistant librarian at Chalcot Library is very dear to her. Not only does she love recommending books, the smell of books, but the building holds a special place in her heart, she practically grew up there, as her mother was the former head librarian and ever since she passed away, June has had a hard time moving on.That’s not all. June prides herself on caring for the library’s numerous regulars. The children who would otherwise not have a place to go after school, the elderly folks for whom the library has become a haven, and the mums and little ones who rely on story time. When funding for the library is in jeopardy as is its very existence, June is forced to come out of her shell. Not only does she face an enormous personal challenge but one that will impact the community that means so much to her. Does she have the strength to put herself out there or will she remain content at home with her mother’s knickknacks and beloved books.I set out to read a few books this long weekend that would warm my soul and THE LAST CHANCE LIBRARY hit the spot. Reading about sweet, reclusive June, as she blossoms along with her fellow library patrons in this beautiful world, is a balm for these difficult times.
