Depending on your length, you will probably be looking at #0 or #000 (one-aught to three-aught) AWG wire. There are 12v DC wiring calculators for this. Since it is an alternator, your working voltage is actually going to be 13.5-14v, which may help nudge the wire to one size or the other. Strong, clean connections are more important than the wire itself. That is usually where owner-installed wiring fails.
