Q: What is the method used for the core? (.i.e. a bunch of strands or flat rubber strip rolled?)

A single, round rubber-like elastomer strand surrounded by a woven sheath. Tough, durable. Stretches to twice its length. I bought it to replace the shock cord in tent poles. It's a little heavy for 8-mm poles, but worked. I've since found many uses for it while traveling by bicycle.

Q: what about the end hooks for these

Just use it to secure soccer goal nets. Tied knots at the ends. Worked great

Q: Could this be used for masks?

It could be if the application isn't critical such as dust masks. If your thinking of using it for a mask involving pathogens there is no guarantee it would meet the stringent specifications for that type of mask .

Q: Would this work for drawstrings in jackets or sweat pant waist?

It’s only an 8th of an inch thick. I would personally go for something that is 3/8th inch for drawstrings.
