Whether or not they ever fully utilize all of the phone's capabilities or not depends on three things. First, the depth of their knowledge of the Android OS. Second, how the Android OS facilitates the power of the S4. Third how they can learn #1 and #2 if they don't already know them. That's where this book, "My Samsung Galaxy S4" comes in. You can determine how much you want (need) to learn, then read and learn exactly how to do what you need to do, whether your level of knowledge of the S4 is a 2.0 out of 10.0 or 9.0 out of 10.0. The book is easy to read, easy to understand, and has good photos to help you learn better, faster. Review: Solid fundamentals book - I like this book for a good read on the fundamentals and all the ins and outs of apps and hardware - by the book. It explains the components clearly and provides great photo's to accompany the text to improve your understanding. It doesn't really get into tips and tricks so if you want shortcuts and easier way of doing things, this book doesn't seem to be that. I haven't read the book cover to cover, just read parts that were of interest only. So there might be some tips and tricks in there that I haven't stumbled upon.

A wonderful and useful smart phone.
Having never possessed a "smart phone," before, I was looking forward to this highly rated device like a child awaits Christmas! And I was not disappointed. It was everything that Consumers Report said it was and more. As a photographer I love the quality of the photos it takes (though miss the stabilization). I am slowly learning how to use it with advice from my daughter-in-law and my granddaughter. LOL Thanks too to Samsung and the Amazon app store for a very helpful app on how to use the phone as well. In fact I liked this device so much I also bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 I highly recommend these products-at Amazon prices to anyone who needs a smart phone.

Outstanding Book
I have to say that this is one of the best manuals I have seen. I have done technical writing and I have a degree in library science so I'm pretty critical of "manuals." Steve Schwartz explains everything here very clearly and each step is accompanied by clear photos. The layout has plenty of white space so you aren't overwhelmed and the index (a major bugaboo of mine) is definitely adequate. So much about this phone is simple, but not necessarily intuitive. Things like how to toggle from one open app to another and how to close out apps without hitting the back button are easily explained. It's 500 pages, so it covers everything, many of which I'll never use. It's not a ho-ho Dummies approach; it's like having the best teacher guide you along. My only beef is that the binding on my book (paperback) wasn't the best and a couple pages started falling out right away. Not the author's fault, or Amazon's. I will contact the publisher. I have already recommended this book to all my friends who have Samsung Galaxy S4s and I highly recommend it here. In the future, when I need help with electronics, I will look first to see if Steve Schwartz has a book on it.

Extremely Detailed, maybe too detailed
I bought it because it claimed to cover everything, and boy does it. It covers every single detail that the phone can do, even all the basic stuff like how to turn it on and make a phone call. I wanted to know everything my phone can do and I wanted to know how to utilize each and every feature it has and this book will cover it all. The problem I have is that for someone like me, anal & perfectionist, meaning I’ll read every page just to make sure I don’t miss anything, and someone who doesn’t know a lot about new technology but is smart enough to figure out the more common and simple functions like turning it on and making calls, checking email, sending and receiving a text, etc… this book will cause you to spend too much time covering obvious things if you read every page instead of scanning the book for those things you don’t know about. For me, I wish I would have found a more simplistic book that would somehow get you through all the features quicker with less detail. This would be a great book for someone taking a college class on Samsung Galaxy S 4 Cell Phones. Great Book but if you want a quick review style type book this may not be the book for you. 5 Stars if your looking for a college level book that covers everything the phone can do; 3 to 4 Stars if your expecting a book that has fewer words to read.

Great learning book
First saw the book at a retail store for 20.00 then ordered it from Amazon for much less and had it sent to my kindle. After having my Galaxy S4 smartphone close to a year I'm learning some new helpful things that we both didn't know on our phones. This is a simple explanatory book which helps you to enjoy your phone more.

So Much I Didn't Know
I basically bought this book because the price caught my attention. Was I in for a pleasant surprise. My measurement of a technical book is how much is in it that I don't know. Based on that, I should rate it a 7 or 8. If I had a book like this for my old HTC phone, I would probably still have the phone. Right now, the book looks pretty bad. But that's a good thing. A visitor can look through my bookcase and find the ones with dog ears, 3x5 card bookmarks, and extensive margin notes -- those will be my most valuable books. If a technical book looks nice, I probably didn't get much use from it. Gotta go now, I'm off to download the Kindle version to my phone. By the way, I should mention something. I have been looking for a book on my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Tablet. Now I don't need it. Ignore the phone chapter, and 95% of the rest of the book applies to my tablet. One rater rated the book a 1, saying it was too complicated for newbies. I agree, this is not a "For Dummies" book.
