A GREAT story. Jacquelyn Frank at her very best!
Originally reviewed for Tea and Book.Have you ever seen a book by a favorite author and got really excited by it? Purchased it, started reading it then fir some reason or another put it aside? Finally for some reason another picking it up but by now expecting to be underwhelmed by it?.. Then suddenly get slapped in the face and reminded just why you like this particular author? Realize that this might be one of the best books she has written to date? Yeah me neither, that is until now. What an absolutely awesome book!Jacquelyn Frank returns us to the world of the Nightwalkers in an exciting new way. Finally beginning the merge of all Nightwalkers. The thing about Jacquelyn Frank is she has a tendency to flit. Sometimes leaving storylines incomplete. It's a tendency of hers that drives me crazy. I get so frustrated because she has moved on to another series before the entire story has been told. But sometimes as a reader we just don't see the entire picture. In Forged we begin to see the weaving together of two great storylines. Of course we are still dealing with the body walkers and their allies, the Djinn, the Night Angels and the Gargoyles (who technically are not Nightwalkers because they were forged together by bodywalkers). We are hearing more and more about the Mystics, the Phoenixes and the Wraiths but what makes everything so awesome is the fact that the Demons make an entrance. And where the Demons go the Lycanthorpes, the Vampires, the Mistrals and the Shadowdwellers (I am missing someone) are sure to follow. What does that mean? Well things are just getting started.Exciting isn't it?As for the specifics of this book...Ahnvil is a gargoyles, forged between man and beast, infused with a bodywalkers spirit and encased in stone. Created to serve, cast into slavery. But he has escaped taking his touchstone (the means of controlling him) with him. Although he still needs a bodywalkers spirit to energize the touchstone he has chosen to serve the Politics fraction of society leaving the greed and power hungry Templers behind. It's been centuries but now he has been captured by the Templers but managed to escape carrying a powerful amulet. Wounded and stranded in the cold he is rescued by a most intriguing female. More worried about the incoming blizzard than her personal safety. As his wounds slowly heal Ahnvil discovers that he is losing his heart to the wee female. Only he knows that if he doesn't make it back to his touchstone soon that heart is going to be made of stone (as well as the rest of him).Katrina Haynes has always been the odd girl out, unable to be in the sunlight she has finally chosen a life of solitude. But that doesn't mean she isn't a compassionate, caring person. So when she finds a wounded man lying out in the cold, miles away from anywhere but her home, she brings him in and nurses him back to health. And that freaky skin turning to stone thing? Well who is she to judge. Most of this books takes place in Kat's cabin but when Kat outs on the amulet Ahnvil has found, suddenly things get interesting. Seems not only can she not taken it off but when Ahnvil tries they are thrown across the room away from each other. So now it seems more help is needed and it's a race to the bodywalkers's compound.Along the way they meet Bella and Jacob (Yay!) Sort of. But this sort of meeting leads to some new discoveries. It seems the Nightwalkers have been split and the reason why has been lost in memory.Of course there is also the split in the bodywalkers society to deal with and both Kat and Ahnvil have had to deal with them.Life is just never easy.A GREAT story. Jacquelyn Frank at her very best!ShauniThis review is based on the ARC of Forged, provided by netgalley

not the best of the series but not the worst either
I desperately wanted to love this book for one reason really. Sometime while at the beginning of Forever I discovered that the Nightwalker tie-in was made with Bella and Jacob. My favorite couple of the series. So to say I was excited would be an understatement. I trudged thru books two and three just to get to them! And while I totally did feel like jumping up and down when they finally came on the scene, their little presence simply wasn't enough to boost the rating of the book for me...unfortunately.We begin with Ahvil (we learn about the 'h' in their names in this book which is good because I was kinda wondering about that.) being captured by a low level acolyte of the Templar named Panahasi. This dude really is pretty stupid as evidenced throughout the book. With the help of a different Templar, Ahvil is able to escape. Though as it turns out just barely. Kat's out at her mountain home with her dog before a huge snow storm is about to hit when she finds him bleeding out and most certainly dying. As a previous medical professional she takes it upon herself to take care of him and give him the help he needs. That I can buy. What I can't buy is her finding herself in love with this man. Yes, he has his moments of sweetness but he is truly such a brute and way to overbearing and controlling. It seemed to me that she was confusing the physical passion they feel with a passion of the heart. I just couldn't figure it out. Anyway... After he's finally well enough to be up and about (more or less) they venture out because he has to get home. He's been out of contact with his touchstone for too long and time is running out for him. It's during this excursion that Kat literally runs into Bella. Neither couple can see each other, but Kat and Bella are able to communicate with notes. Eventually leading to Kat sending the two of them to meet them at the Politic home in NM. Kat and Ahnvil obviously get there first but it's not too long until Bella and Jacob get there. Turns out (obviously) that only Leo and Max can see or hear them, but it's enough to get everybody on the same page more or less. We learn a little twist about Kat and while it is pretty interesting, especially when we get Grey's idea about it, it didn't add much to the story for me for some reason. Which is odd because it comes very much in handy when she ends up being kidnapped by Panahasi. See, she put on this amulet that Ahnvil had swiped during his escape and can't get it off. Panahasi wants it back. Ahvil still fights himself over his desire to destroy Kamen but when he helps to save Kat he's forced not to hate him as much. Now, the ending I have to say I didn't particularly like. Is it too soon you ask, Ahnvil? YES IT'S TOO SOON!!! But nope, not according Kat. Insert face palm right about here. From what I got of it, Leo and Faith are now staying at Noah's castle with that half of Nightwalker races as sort of a go between for the two. So that's kind of cool. And I so cannot wait for more cross overs of the characters that I love from the Nightwalker series...especially Bella and Jacob!

I'm a Big Fan of the old Nightwalker series, and this series hasn't been bad, either.
I enjoy this World that Ms. Frank has created. I don't find this branch-off series books quite as good as the original, but I still enjoy them. This book briefly brings a couple of the original characters back from the other series, which was nice. This installment highlights the HEA of a Gargoyle character. These books feature recurring characters, an ongoing plot, and a fascinating World. Each book ends with decent resolution and a HEA for the featured characters. They also have hot sex scenes.I did notice that this book has some awkward scenes that follow each other with no break, paragraph, or chapter division. Either the writing or the formatting needs further work--which is unusual with books from noted, published authors. Maybe Ms. Frank needs a new publisher and editor.I have purchased the next and last book in this series, "Nightwalker", and I look forward to reading it. Although this wasn't my favorite book in the series, "Forged" was still a good read for me.
