Jim Dunlop Ultex® Standard Pick .73MM - 6 Pack

The Jim Dunlop Ultex® Standard Pick .60MM has been my choice of guitar pick (electric or acoustic) for several years now. I see lately there are picks going for 30-35 dollars. I'll have to take a pass on that, the Ultex .60 is all I'll ever need. Not the prettiest color, but the feel is good and not greasy or sticky either and the price is quite fair.

Ultex picks sound a bit jangly on my Martin dread so I use something else, but these babies really brought my Gibson jumbo to life like nothing else did. I had tried everything to coax an exciting sound out of that big old box, but these picks finally did it. They were a total revelation: bright, crisp, clean, upfront sound. Easy to hold, fast and slick, they feel good against the strings and boy, do they sing. I use the 73's for flatpicking or digging into blues, and the 60's are great for smoother rhythm playing. Sometimes in a pinch I'll even use a 1.0 on the mandolin, although it's not my first pick, so to speak. Contrary to other reviews citing indestructibility, I have found they do create dust from being shaved against the strings, which is a little strange and a just a tad messy, but it's more than worth it for the sound. My only gripe at this writing: how come the 60's run a buck-fifty more per six pack than the 73's do? Oh, the injustice.

Have used for years. Their tone and longevity make this multi pack a great investment as opposed to 5 in a pack.

I've been using Dunlop .60 thickness picks for a long time for which I am running a Taylor 814ce Rosewood Grand Auditorium Acoustic Guitar , 6-String, CE with Elixir® Strings Acoustic 80/20 Bronze Guitar Strings with NANOWEB® Coating, Custom Light (.011-.052) . I recent upgraded my selection to the Ultex Standard version and I can say I love them so far. It feels great in the hand and maintain good "stickiness" between the finger and thumb. My major aspect of a pick for myself is that it must not substantially change the sound of the guitar in a negative way, this pick certainly achieves that and likely better than my previous Dunlop picks. For a guitar pick to work well, you need to find the correct thickness dependent upon your instrument and string thickness as well as the tone that you are looking to achieve. For my uses this pick achieves the correctness I was looking for and haven't moved from this thickness in years. That's not to say I have not gone down to the local guitar shop and tried several other thicknesses, as I most certainly have. I always just end up right back to this particular brand of pick and thickness.

Picks are subjective. I have been filing down the points of Fender medium triangle picks. No need with these. Slightly flexible good size. Works for me as an acoustic pick

I got used to the guitar picks that typically came free with other purchases, whether it be a guitar strap or just wandering into our local Guitar Store franchise. What you’ll notice first with these picks is the texture... they don’t slip or slide in your hand while at the same time you can maneuver them quite easily unlike some of the “bumpy” picks you’ll come across. It’s tough to describe. The other thing about these is the way they wear... where the cheap picks will lose their shape after some playtime, these don’t. You’ll notice that instead of the tip becoming rounded off, it’ll keep its shape but the wear happens to the edge in a more uniform fashion. If you typically “downpick” like me when you play, one edge will get a little smoothed off after some significant playtime. Flip the pick over, and it’s as good as new. If you alternate your picking, then these will last quite a while. I’ve noticed that the thickness on these don’t seem to be a 1:1 comparison in the “feel” dept when compared to the Nylon/Cellulioid equivalents. To put it another way, these .73mm Ultex picks have about as much flex as a .8x or .9x Nylon pick. I typically play in Drop C with 10-52 strings and while .73 works perfectly fine, they were a little stiffer than I anticipated at first. I think I’ll take the thickness down one notch and see how it feels. Nonetheless, I’m never going with another pick again... Dunlop Ultex has the best mix of grip + wear pattern that I’ve ever come across.

I like the smaller size. Durable easy play. The larger sizes seem to get in the way and I drop them more often.

Too good quality plectrum for acoustic guitar.

Habe die Plektren für meine Jumbo-Gibson geholt. Bin sehr zufrieden, da diese sehr griffig sind und somit sehr gut in der Hand liegen. Jedes Plek macht seine individuellen Geräusche und dieses hier ist sehr dezent und nicht so "plastisch". Kann ich nur weiter empfehlen

El tamaño standard de una plumilla tortex, lo cual es bueno para los que estamos acostumbrados a ese tamaño. Este material es más duradero y da un sonido más brillante...lo único que no me gusta es que no haya opciones de color, y al ser de tono claro y trasparente es fácil perderles...

Plettro molto adatto per strumming (e non per altri usi!): buona la presa e la resistenza all'uso nonostante la morbidezza del modello. Offerto a prezzo molto vantaggioso.
