One of the Better Products Out There
Let's begin by saying that if a person knows what they're doing with this substrate, the outcomes will be favorable. These previous reviews citing the product's "dirtiness" or needing to rinse it heavily provide examples of what happens when a person does not know how to properly utilize fluorite in the planted aquarium. If you're new to using planted tank substrates, I'd strongly suggest getting advice from a reputable source. That aside, the product does not need rinsed, washed, and is not dirty. The more a person rinses, the less good the product can do. The trick is to: a.) add the fluorite to a dry tank, b.) do not disturb the substrate while filling the aquarium, and c.) if water cloudiness doesn't settle in a day or so, change the filter media. Adding this substrate to an existing tank is a terrible idea, as is excessive moving around of plants and hardscape once the tank is filled.Experienced aquariasts return to this product again and again for good reason. Let their experiences guide the use of this product and there'll be no need for negative reviews.

Great color and fantastic substrate for plants
I love the reddish tone - it has a neutral look and makes the tank look natural. Seachem says it is "specially fracted stable porous clay gravel." It makes plants grow great! It does require rinsing. I put half of the 7kg bag in a five gallon bucket, then rinsed and drained it ten times. Seems like a lot, but when I added it to an established tank, I had very little cloudiness - and that little bit settled out in just about an hour. I add CO2 and fertilize for good plant growth, but I really think the Flourite is crucial for the way my planted tank is flourishing.

Live plant aquarium…Excellent substrate
excellent choice for live plant aquarium; however you will need to rinse for about an hour til water runs clear. This is clearly stated on directions DO NOT IGNORE this step. Yes it will take an hour…outside is best option. Get a big bucket and rinse half of the bag and then rinse second half. Let it dry and rinse again with spring water and let dry before adding to your tank.

Fish love it
It’s nice .! Yes u need to rinse it good .Even if it’s rinsed ur tank will get a little cloudy . But once it sits to the bottom or ur filter got the extra dust out . It looks clean .. I got a 75 bow . Got two bags . Doesn’t look too bad but maybe 3 would be better . Need some more plants 🌱

Needed a media for large tanks
Wonderful substrate in large tanks and small tanks. Seems to have a large supply of nutrients for plants to growing only downfall is it is a nightmare to get clean before you put in your tank or your tank will be very cloudy.

This stuff is dirty af
So I bought this because Amazon was selling it for 15$ for a 15lbs bag. Like other reviews said wash it and wash it and wash it and was it……. After about 30 rinses I thought it was clean nope it wasn’t so just keep washing it. I found drilling some hole in bucket and just letting the water run through it work well but took about an hour of constant water flowing through it to clean it

Find another seller
I wanted to give zero stars.Do not bother with this seller! See attached photos!1. The product received had been taped in two places and there was still a gaping hole on another corner! The pack seems to be second hand!!!2. The delivery was delayed without any email/text update. I had to chase up seller who informed me that the carrier Hermes UK had been rebranded to Evri and that I had to contact Amazon asap to avoid return charges. Evri website stated the obvious, ie there’s a delay and will try again! As I had been waiting for the flourite for over a week, I had no choice but to accept the package!Bad product! Late delivery!

Don’t add water right after
I think it’s good subgragate for plant aquarium. Some people complain about it contains too much dust, need rinse a lot. I don’t agree, the dust actually is like soils, it is needed for plants. I sprayed some water, plant the seed, and then some plants, keep it moisture for about 2 week, then fill the water. It’s just fine, not much dust at all. The second day, the water became clear. I am happy with the result. Just you shouldn’t put it in the tank and fill the water right after, it needs some time in the wet environment to settle down.

My go to substrate for planted aquariums.
This is a great clay gravel for natural aquariums. I used 2 bag of this + 2 bags of Seachem black flourite sand for a 36 gallon bowfront.I never pre-wash and I never have more than a slight haze that is gone within a few hours. You need to put a small plate on the botton of the tank or platic film over the bottom and then pour the water slowly onto them (Youtube has some great videos for this.) This will prevent the silt in the bag from being disturbed. After being in the aquarium hobby for 15+ years my advice to everyone new is be patient and don't rush anything. We all are excited and want to rush and put water in but if you allow yourself to slowdown and take an extra 10 minutes to fill your tank you won't have the aggravation and frustration many people on here have posted about.

Plants approve!
Note: this WILL make your water cloudy. DON'T rinse it first! The sediment is natural and will settle, this stuff is coated with minerals good for plants.I have had great success with both germinating seeds underwater, and growing existing plants with this substrate. The reddish colouring looks beautiful in contrast with green.Don't want to stir up red clouds every time you clean your tank? Surround your plants, driftwood, decor etc with bigger stones so they don't fall over, and keep in place.

Requires EXTRA rinsing
Good substrate. However, you require approximately one Olympic-sized swimming pool to rinse each bag. So, I would suggest talking to your local pool to see when they plan on emptying their water and use that.Even after rinsing with the entire great-lakes region, once the substrate is settled in your tank, it will become soft and any disturbance will create a choking cloud of micro particles.Plant any plants and place any decor before you add fish. Have polishing filters and micro filters at the ready. Use some of those liquids that help clear cloudy water as well.My plants are doing well in these rocks. And with care, so are my neon tetras.
