Please justify the insane price tag when there are three other reputable, certified organic brands that offer 24+ at 1/3 the price?

Dear Donald,Unfortunately, if you can find 24+ manuka at a much-reduced price then what you have been looking at is 'Active' graded Manuka honey (I use the word 'Manuka' very lightly). These brands are selling an 'Active' grade of creamed honey. This 'active' grading score means that the honey has been tested for the total peroxide activity of the honey. Peroxide activity is what is found in ALL honey and the activity declines very quickly over time. So, it means this is a very poor test to prove that the honey inside the pot is uniquely Manuka as ALL HONEY types contain Peroxide activity. It also means that by the time you have consumed the honey - the activity will be much, much lower than what is on the label. Generally, we can assume that if a honey is graded 'active' then it is likely to not be a Manuka honey - more likely a blend of other honey's being marketed as Manuka (essentially ripping the consumer off). It is obviously far cheaper for these companies to buy cheaper honey and then label it Manuka â" hence the price difference between legitimate and fake manuka. If you were selling real manuka honey â" you must ask the question âwhy wouldnât you test under the legitimate testâ? The only reason you would grade under the â~activeâ grade is if you are NOT selling Manuka honey inside the pot.  It is frustrating that companies are still able to sell active honey. The NZ government has banned the use of the active grading system as it is misleading to the consumer. Unfortunately, the USA has not followed suit yet.The actual effective component of Manuka is the Methylglyoxal level (MGO) which is used to convert into a Non-peroxide activity (NPA) score - this is stable over heat and time - so wont decrease in the pot.  Unfortunately, even MGO can be adulterated â" if you google â~Evergreen Manuka MPIâ you can see that this has happened recently. If you also google â~Manuka honey independentâ the UK newspaper (The Independent, July 1, 2014) has a good article on the amount of fake vs legitimate Manuka being sold on the global market. It is estimated that approx. 80% of all honey sold as â~Manukaâ globally is fake Manuka (a blend of honeys marketed as Manuka). It is unfortunately a widespread issue â" and unfortunately these brands can continue to do what they do because of the lack of regulations around what is Manuka honey internationally.(sorry I canât send you the URLâs as amazon does not allow this)The only way to ensure you are getting a quality REAL MANUKA honey product (not a blend of other honeys) is to look for the UMF grade. This tests for several markers that are only found in Manuka honey (including Leptosperin).  The number next to the UMF grade gives you the non-peroxide level score of the honey. The higher the number - the more antibacterial activity the honey has. The actual UMF grade also confirms that it has the required level of Leptosperin to prove that it is a REAL manuka honey. Leptosperin is a property that is truly unique to Manuka and is not able to be made artificially so is the best test to prove what you are buying is REAL Manuka.Secondly - This is a genuine UMF graded 24+ Manuka honey. This is an exceptionally rare honey and is extremely costly to produce. It is the purest Manuka available on the global market today. Less than 1% of the legitimate crop produced is this strength. The product lists both umf and mgo ratings. does that mean that your manuka honey is certified by both organizations whose ratings they represent?

Hi Justitia, I just purchased and used some of the Steens Manuka honey.  I can tell you that not all manuka honey makers are created equal.  The Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association (UMFHA) tests and certifies only the real deal.  I ran Steens through their website by company name and they are certified.  The UMFHA scientist's test manuka honey for Leptosperin, Hydroxymethylfurfural, and Methylglyoxal. Why does it say " no antibiotic" when that is the reason people are buying it?

Manuka raw honey has its' own  umf (unique Manuka factor) which has been used as a healing  medication by
the Maori natives since they arrived in the ? 700s.  All honey also has a healing factor but the UMF makes it stronger.  No antibiotics or preservatives are used in bottling the honey.  Also, do not use a metal spoon to issue a dose - only wood or plastic is best.
