One Scary Morning
"I Survived the Japanese Tsunami" is a beyond amazing book. When my mom first gave me the book I immediately started reading it – literally as soon as she handed it to me. "I Survived the Japanese Tsunami" has a perfect amount of action, suspense, and has characters that relate to me. That is everything I like in a book! Ben is visiting his father’s hometown in Japan only 4 months after his dad’s death. But one morning a terrible earthquake happens nearly toppling his uncles house. Then a tsunami washes away of what Is left of the village! Will Ben and his family survive?"I Survived the Japanese Tsunami" has tons of action. For example, on page 20 it says, “But the rumbling got louder and louder, and the bed began to shake.” This has action because the earthquake just hit and the whole house is shaking and won’t stop. Also on page 35 says, “A gigantic wave, taller than a building, and so wide he couldn’t see where it started or ended. It seemed to stretch endlessly across the ocean,” That has action because a giant tsunami is coming towards ben and destroying everything in its path. That is why "I Survived the Japanese Tsunami" has plenty of action."I Survived the Japanese Tsunami" also has a lot of suspense. For example, on page 39 it says, “And suddenly there was water all around them, foaming black water, rising up angry waves!” That is suspenseful because Bens family is in the car trying to speed away from the massive wave. Also on page 40 it says, “The door popped open. Ojisan fell out of the car.” That is suspenseful because Ojisan fell out of the car when the wave hit it! That is why "I Survived the Japanese Tsunami" suspenseful – you want to know what is going to happen next!I also like this book because the main character, Ben, is like me. For example, on page 28 it says, “She howled and scratched at him, but he managed to pull her back so that Harry could grab her,” That relates to me because I also have a pet that doesn’t like me-for no reason. On page 29 it says, “Finally the shaking stopped.” That relatable to me because I have also been in an earthquake. Also, Ben has a younger brother – Harry. I also have a younger sibling. That is why the main character relates to me.Throughout the story, Ben realizes to never give up hope. The author tells me to preserver through tough challenges that may happen in the nearby future. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars! I loved reading the book so much I made my mom get me the whole “I Survived” series. I promise that you will love this book!

This is a must read book from the I Survived series
I wanted to read this book because there was an assignment given by our English teacher where we had to read a historical fiction book so I chose this one. I Survived the Japanese Tsunami is a good book for historical fiction readers as it explains about events in the past like the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. This book is about a boy named Ben Kudo, his brother Harry , his mother and their father’s uncle, Ojisan who get separated due to a tsunami which spread for over 5 miles INLAND. Ben has been disheartened as his father died. His brother made a wish on the top of a magical cherry tree that their father would come back and he did! His wisdom came back into Ben’s heart and mind which helped him survive the quake and the tsunami. This book really interested me because there is a lot of action the author explains in a way I can imagine it happening behind me.For example, in chapter 1 it says , “ The churning water twisted him, tore at him, spun at him like a bird caught in a tornado. Terror screamed through his body .” You will really want to read on and find out what happened in the book.I feel that there are funny moments like when Harry made the wish and came tumbling down the cherry tree and then they had to rush to the hospital because there was a huge gash on his hand. There they met Dr. Sato who tricked Harry and said that DARTH VADER had a scar . Harry wanted to be just like him so he was brave enough to get the scar.I hope I have contributed and that you will read this outstanding review.

My Daughter Enjoyed Reading It
I bought this book for my daughter so she could have something fun to read during my son's recent physical therapy evaluation. She finished probably 10 minutes before we were done, and then gave me the stink eye when I told her she could then read in her Everything Your Fourth Grader Needs to Know Book...yah, I'm totally no fun that way ;) Actually, I'd thought for sure this would probably keep her occupied more then half an hour and hadn't purchased her a second, so I didn't have anything else on my kindle to hit her with that wasn't something she finds even more snoozy, like Jane Austin. The rating comes from her, she really enjoys the books in this series and this was no exception. She says this is fictional (as in the characters and events described), but based off of real life events. She gave me a play by play later that day, but won't repeat anything now (I am honest enough to admit I was only partially paying attention because something came up with her brother at the same time and so I tuned some of her description), and she says she doesn't want to be a spoiler for the sake of this review. I think it could be she's not too thrilled I'm interrupting her while she's reading her brand new Animal Jam book to do this. I do remember she was super excited because the main character's cat saves him in the Tsunami. I told her it's a good thing we don't live near the ocean, because our Catzilla wouldn't even think about doing that. She said what she likes most about these books is that they are all about disasters, and she "likes reading about disasters...ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!" I feel like it almost needed to be a "muah ha ha ha ha" based on the tone she used, but ... Anyways, she likes these a lot and is chuckling over my shoulder as we speak about my last sentence and is now trying to sweet talk me into a lollipop. Which I've used to extort the additional information about the book out of her about the plot line:Basically there was a kid in his uncle's house and that's when the earthquake happened, and they got out of the house and into a car, and that's when the Tsunami caught up to them, and if they want to know more they'll have to read it for themselves. I think that's as good as we're going to get. I think she gets this from me, because I won't ever tell her what's going to happen next when I'm reading to her or watching movies with her for things I'm already familiar with. I think this is payback kiddo style ;)

My son enjoys it!
We gave it as a gift. Pls be mindful that if you will give this as a gift, you might be opt to add some other items. This is incredibly thin book. My son was able to read it in 15 mins while I'm looking for a sticky tape to wrap this.
