London and the Seventeenth Century: The Making of the World's Greatest City

Good but could be better
Packed with facts, not necessarily in chronological order. Lacking a map of London showing many of the districts referenced in the text. That would have been useful when reading about the expansion of trade, docks and shipbuilding. Many references to population growth but no chart pulling the numbers together. Good list of references and well indexed.

From a Londoner
Very entertaining and well written read on a much covered decade plainly though somewhat disappointed in the coverage of the civil war which does take a very pro royalist view and some of the 'Facts' about Crowwell are plainly wrong. Well worth getting though if you are interested in the period.

Interesting
P. 223 line 15 ‘....longitude, their north-south position ‘. Surely not? Also at least one spelling mistake - I was surprised.A good read but not as entertaining as Claire Tomalin’s biography of Pepys which is my all-time favourite read.

Excellent account
A well written and insightful account of the Seventeenth century Britain, it’s movers and shakers, covering many areas.

A must for anyone interested in London's history.
Necessary reading for anyone with an interest in London's history - especially if they have London ancestors. See what their relatives were up to & experiencing all those centuries ago!!

An easy intersting read
I'm not a historian but found this a fascinating read in an amazing century. I will be eternally grateful to the Dutch for giving us William and Mary.
