Great, inexpensive yet adequate brake control
After reading many of the reviews on here, I felt more confident about purchasing it and installing it myself. Some reviews said installed in 10 minutes, others indicated longer. Well I'm embarassed to say how long it took me, but I'm still glad I did it. I'm not a small guy - 6'0 250lbs so twisting and contorting myself to gain access to the under-dash area was a challenge in and of itself. Once I decided on a suitable location - on right side near center column - I begun the work needed. I drive a 2004 Chevy Silverado which has the auxiliary fuse box allowing for "plug-and-play" so I needed to buy separately the appropriate harness. I had a heck of a time drilling the holes throw the steel frame below the dash due to the lack of space and pressure I could apply. Once I did that, the bracket went on fairly easily as did the brake control into the bracket. HOWEVER, I left myself VERY little room on the right side of the bracket - great for being out of the way enough to drive, not so great to fasten the bracket to the control. I do not own an angle socket - although I will be getting one, and OF COURSE, I could not find my 1/4" (I think) open-end wrench. So I used a socket and a crescent to tighten the screws into the control. Piece of advice - screw the screws into (and out of) the control before mounting it to the bracket - this primes the plastic holes and makes it much easy to install once it's in bracket. I was worried about installing the controller on the wrong angle but there is a wide range of acceptance (20-70 degrees, maybe?). So installation was conceptually easy, just a physical challenge. I would do it again because the savings are very worth it. So far I've only pulled the trailer (22' double axle 3500lbs) about 10 miles from storage to home but the brake worked flawlessly after following the adjustment directions. If you are semi-handy with tools, this is the way to go. Great brake control, simple to use, effective.

Excellent brake controller
This is the second such trailer brake controller I've used, and it doesn't outstanding job for a low to mid-priced brake controller. The way they describe this controller is "pendulum based" versus the cheaper "time based" controllers. Those cheapo time-based controllers which are only a few bucks cheaper than this one really stink, because they just ramp up the power going to the trailer brakes the longer they're engaged. The result is that you don't get enough braking when you initially apply the brakes (ordering an emergency stop), but by the time you are completely slowed down and would normally be easing off the brakes, these time base controllers are applying maximum power to the trailer brakes. The net effect is they are practically never applying the right amount of braking. For only a few dollars more, this brake controller is light years better. The internal pendulums how fast or slow the tow vehicle is decelerating, and applies the trailer brakes based on that. So if you slam on the brakes suddenly, the controller will feel it and apply a lot of power to the trailer brakes since you obviously are trying to stop quickly. And if you're just applying the brakes lightly, the internal pendulums on the controller don't swing as far and the trailer brakes are also applied lightly. It makes for a very seamless braking experience. All you have to do is dial it in a little bit at the beginning of your trip (one knob to "level" the unit/calibrate it's zero, and another knob to adjust the gain/how hard you want the brakes to apply), and it's fully automatic after that. It does have a manual slider switch so you can manually apply the trailer brakes if you need to (such as for getting trailer sway under control). In my opinion, this controller is The Sweet spot when it comes to bang for your buck: spending less money results in a drastic decrease in features and performance, and on the flip side you have to spend a heck of a lot more on a more advanced controller before you will notice a marked difference in performance. For the vast majority of non-professional towing, this controller is going to give you outstanding performance without breaking the bank. Don't kid yourself into thinking that since you don't tow off and you can get away with the cheaper controller... Trust me, I used to be that guy, and after switching to this controller I kicked myself forever having been dumb enough to run one of those cheap piece of junk brake controllers it's your and your family's safety on the line, don't risk it. Not only that, this thing just works so much better it'll save you headache and heartburn. Just get it, you won't be sorry.

Good Budget Trailer Brake Controller
Nice trailer brake controller for the price. Very easy to install and worked great. My only complaint is that the gain is a little difficult to set. But that could just be because of my trailer or because of me being to picky about how it works. All and all a good quality unit that will work great if you don't need a fancy expensive trailer brake controller.

Fairly easy install in my old Grand Cherokee and working well with two different trailers.

Great brake controller
This earned a 1 star for easy to install since I had to wire my Subaru Outback 2011 myself for the brake assist in a trailer. I had to clip the plug to get at the wires on this and get all the wiring done myself. HOWEVER: the instructions with this were clear on what needed to be done if necessary (I used a video online to help with the wiring). That being said, this was easy to adjust and worked flawlessly. I can highly recommend this.
