Almost Twins: A Story about Friendship and Inclusion

I am so proud of Anna Mates she is a very special young lady. I have watched her progress since she was born. Wonderful job Anna and a great inspiration to many. I am proud to say I am your friend.

This is an important book with a message for everyone! As a former special education teacher and most recently retired professor of education, I have read numerous books about children with Down Syndrome. This one is the first I’ve read co-authored by a person with Down Syndrome. Almost Twins is unique as it involves the authentic friendship between two young adults and allows the reader to be a part of their lives as they explore and celebrate their differences and similarities! It is a true story with a lesson for all! Almost Twins belongs in every school library.

Both authors have so much in common with some differences. “Almost Twins” is a book about two college girls one with a disability, Down Syndrome. This is a true story. I learned things I didn’t know about Down Syndrome. Very educational. Every school and home should have this book!

As an educator, I have found that there are few books about students with special needs. I love that this book celebrates both the commonalities and the differences that connect us and make us special. A wonderful book by a pair of amazing young authors

This book has quickly become a favorite in our family’s house!!! Anna M. and Anna P. have such an amazing friendship, and it is wonderful to see the impact that the Almost Twins have already had on so many!

Such a beautiful story about inclusion and acceptance. I use it with the classes I teach to help them understand that we are all alike in so many ways in spite of our differences.

This book is wonderfully written. Every classroom should hear this story of friendship!
