73004RD 1 Quart Primer

Not as good as I hoped.
Tried this primer on my garage door on a barrier island in Fla. I have had to repaint the steel door very year since the house was built in 2011. Sanded the rust spots on the door, then bead blasted it to get at the pitted rust. Read the directions, put three coats on and less than a month later, had to repaint some areas again. This is not cheap, but disappointed in it's ability to stop the rust from coming back soon.

This is an excellent primer better than any other by far.
This primer is the best I have ever used and trust me I tried a bunch. I use it on all my implements. It holds up super and makes rust disappear. I even used it on an old trailer and after it looked great. It was a bit expensive; but, worth every penny, because it holds up and lasts under all conditions. I started out with a pint the farmer next door gave me and ended up buying several gallons, used it on mowing equipment, tractors, trailers and digging equipment. I originally checked all the local hardware stores who tried to sell me other brands That didn’t work. I found it on Amazon and Wow, been using it on all kinds of jobs.... can’t say enough about how well it works.

Very thick paint
Very thick paint. Makes it difficult to brush on and leaves brush marks. The instructions say, in bold letters, not to thin it. But I don’t need it to be pretty just stop rust. So time will tell how it holds up. One quart covered the top of my shredder with a bit left over. All and all I’m happy with it.

Delays rust
I look after a property that faces the ocean. Rust is everywhere, even on the highest grade SS. The iron particles are carried in the air and land on everything. Allowed to sit, the iron deposits will start oxidizing on the surface and form rust. At the same property, I have to clean rust off of vinyl windows. This product delays the reappearance and development of the rust, but it can't prevent iron particles landing on the painted surface. No product can do that. And when I buy this product, I purchase it from Southern Paint and Supply. They are the best and look after the customer.

The rust will eventually return because rust never sleeps.
Been using this product for years on rust.Being in the Painter’s union and using lots of rust products this works the best.

Not impressed with product or company.
I purchased one can for stopping the rust on three window wells. The main reason was the claim that it stops rust for five years. I ran out after completing two windows so I had to order another can to complete the third. After only one month the third window started showing signs of rust. I contacted the company and was asked to fill out a warranty form and supply photos. After waiting several weeks for a reply I contacted the company again and was told that I didn't apply the paint correctly so they wouldn't honor their warranty. That's BS. It was applied the same as the first so there is no difference in the way I did it.Bottom line is, product consistency isn't there and the company doesn't honor their warranty.

pretty good stuff; my second choice after Rust Bullet
I've had mixed results with Rust Destroyer. Sometimes the rust seems to go away for years at a time whereas in other instances it returns within a matter of months. My most compelling experience with this product was treating heavy rust on the body of a 1988 Volvo station wagon. I used Rust Destroyer after first treating the rusty steel with Corroseal. In some areas the rust returned after a couple of years but, and I don't want to jinx myself here, in other areas it has yet to return - and the initial restoration job was performed 7 years ago, in 2013.As to why I prefer Rust Bullet: the silver color is much easier to cover and can be left as a top coat in many applications, and it dries super fast (whereas Rust Destroyer can take a long time to cure).I just used Rust Destroyer to protect a new cast iron rain leader outside near the beach in San Francisco and it's still tacky in some areas after over 72 hours. I contacted the company regarding cure time but haven't heard back yet. As many other reviews state, Rust Destroyer goes on thick, shows brush marks, and can take a while to dry. If you need something that can be top coated quickly, this may not be the right product for you.
