BASE 66: A Story of Fear, Fun, and Freefall

This dude is the typical skydiver, just decades ago - and gives a wonderful story of the beginnings of the BASE experience and what it was like living that skydiving life.

I don't often review books, but I'm compelled to review this one. This is a fun, exciting and interesting story. It is also a translation from the original Swedish by Ingrid Lang. Something is always lost in translation, but the quality of the writing in English stirs me to wonder at the nature of the translator's aims: was she aiming for linguistic accuracy or feel? If she was aiming for linguistic accuracy, well I can't comment because I don't know Swedish and haven't read the original. In terms of feel, I would honestly have to say that this isn't the most well-written book. That's why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. It's a great story that's worth reading and includes some wonderful photos, but don't expect a high literary quality.

THE PRICE WAS RIGHT. IT WAS AN ENJOYABLE BOOK TO READ IF YOUR INTERESTED IN BASE JUMPING/SKYDIVING.

Great Story

If this book had ended at the conclusion of the penultimate chapter, it would have been a great read. The final chapter reads like an absentee ballot cast by a ghost-writer. It took the denouement and broke it into pieces. I loved the story and would have been happier if it ended as a narrative.

If you want the ultimate, you have to be willing to pay the ultimate price.Jevto does a great job. He is honest.

Wow. Just so much fun to read. Gives a great insight into the early days of BASE jumping.

This book had me hooked from the moment I started reading it. Every time I had to go off and do something else, I wanted to just continue reading, and was always looking forward to the evening after work when I could lye down and read! The book takes you through the whole of the authors base jumping experiences, and even made me feel nervous / adrenaline pumped just reading some of the experiences. Great book, recommend for anyone who loves exploring, adventure, or adrenaline sports! :D

Jevto describes everything I've felt myself just as a skydiver, and his transition into the world of BASE.He writes in such a way that you can almost feel yourself there on the edge with him.Definately recommended.

Not the longest book but still a very good read. Hardly put it down. These people are crazy, but live life on the edge and too the full. Highly recommend.

Great read for anyone, active or just interested, in skydiving and BASE.

An honest account by some pioneers of this crazy sport, along with the thoughts and fears they encounter along the way.
