Very informative. Got me through my last semester of nursing school . Highly recommend!

This excellent book demystified the process of writing psychiatric nursing care plans. Each chapter covers different disorders by category, has extensive rationales for each nursing diagnoses and tip boxes for therapeutic conversations and assessment guides. These last two features I found especially helpful when anticipating a difficult or resistant patient. This manuel is designed to go with the textbook also by Elizabeth Varcarolis - 'Foundations of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing' both published by Elsevier, there is also an online component if you need the additional help with study. I found the textbook and this volume to be sufficient and was able to do very well in this difficult rotation in large part because of the extra insights I gained from this book. This book is extensively cross-referenced throughout - it has sections on various therapies utilized for specific disorders, the DSM-IV-TR criteria for various disorders, drugs used and their effects, resources for the nurse, patient and family, copious internet and journal resource material related to the disorder being investigated, and guidelines for limit/goal setting with the patient.

There have been changes in both the DSM and the NANDA uses for nurses in behavioral health care. I have been in nursing since 1972 and it is always great to have such a reference that is easy to follow AND an excellent source for even experienced nurses to update and refresh how the profession currently applies evidence based practices. I highly recommend this book to anyone who desires to be their best in the present day application of the nursing process for behavioral health care settings, not just for students or inpatient areas only.

The book is small and light which I can carry with me instead of lugging around a big textbook. It was not required for class, but a recommended book. I am glad I purchased it as it helped me write my care plan.The book itself is broken down in 5 parts: Guidelines for Planning Psychiatric Nursing Care, Diagnosis and Care Planning, Psychiatric Emergencies and Forensic Issues, Challenging Behaviors, and Psychopharmacology. There are references, classification full assessment, assessment tools for children adolescents, assessment guides, and abnormal involuntary movement scale (AIMS)

This made my psych careplans 100% easier and cut down on the time it took me to complete them. Much more in-depth for psych than other general careplan books. This was a suggested book for my psych nursing class and I’m so glad that I bought it.

This book was my lifeline in mental health nursing. I think most nursing students would agree that psych care plans are not fun. With this book, I simply found my patient's illness and followed the book. I did well on my care plans and passed psych with ease. If you have a strict teacher, you might not have the same luck as me, but it worked wonders for me.

This is good supplemental material for any Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing course or text. It is concise, contains everything you need, and you don't have to drag your book around. I get these little helpers whenever possible for any class. This one has the nursing diagnoses, interventions, and rationales for every condition so you can use it to write your critical thinking papers as well. It also has care planning...happy reading!
