Magnifying Glass with LED Lights. Handle Folds for Storage

Replacing an older glass for my mom. This one is much nicer, the folding handle and storage bag are great. The slide switch for the light is a big improvement over the old one. Also, the LED lights are very bright. Again, much better than the old one. I liked it so much, I bought one for myself. UPDATE: something on the PCB for the LEDs turned into a marshmallow looking mass and one light stopped working. Too bad, loved these. We'll see how long the other one lasts. August 21,2017 UpdateI just updated my rating to 5 stars. Since the first order, I have purchased four more of these magnifying glases for three other fellow residents of our high rise. They think this is the greatest. Now they can read the NEWSPAPER ! Imagine the joy of doing such a simple task. One 92 year old lady has dry macular and is very upset at this turn of events. She took her Magnifying Glass to the doctor who said it is better and stronger than the glasses he offers his clients. BTW, I bought 4 because there was an $8 discount on two and I know someone here will soon ask me to get them one--and I'll have it ready to go! I even put in the two batteries because they surely can't see the + / - signs inside the handle. I only charge them my costs but I am immensely repaid by their gratefulness to be able to read more easily,****I ordered this magnifier along with a round one so I could chose which one would be better for my friend who has both glaucoma and macular degeneration. This one won, hands down. The lens has little distortion along the sides and is wide and clear. Since my friend enjoys reading his Bible, this is the right one for him. There is little need to move the lens from side to side. The light will be of great value since our older high rise apartments have no overhead lighting to augment a reading lamp. It is not heavy and the adjustable handle is easy to angle whichever way is most comfortable for the user. It needs two AAA batteries which should be long lived since LED lights use very little 'juice'. (The ad says 8 hours of constant usage). The battery cover is a tad tricky to get on an off. Just align it straight with the handle and don't be afraid to push. My biggest complaint is the icky plastic smell of the cheap protective case you get with the magnifying glass. I just may exclude it as part of the gift. BTW, the whole thing is about a 3/4" wider and perhaps 3/16" deeper than my iphone.

I tried this magnifying glass because I liked the idea of the rectangular shape and the fact that it has LED lights and it seemed to come from a medical supply house (Shorewood Medical). (The insert says that it is a Magnifico brand magnifier that is distributed by Shorewood Medical). It makes it easier to read paragraphs because of it's shape. Initially, the round "super magnifying" area seemed to not be all that helpful to me because it's such a small area of magnification and actually got in the way when I was reading large areas of print (See Update, below).It comes in a nice leather storage case. The fold out handle is convenient. The switch, which is on the hinge area of the handle on the opposite side from the LED's, is easy to operate with your thumb while holding the magnifying glass by the handle.It is made in communist China.The batteries go in the fold out handle!! At first glance, there is a removable cover that is where the LED's are. Don't remove that. The handle battery cover (its the whole half of the handle) is somewhat difficult to remove, and it is NOT OBVIOUS that it is a battery case/cover. Follow the directions below and you shouldn't have any problems.TO REMOVE THE BATTERY CASE COVER: Lay the magnifying glass down with the LED bulbs facing up. Put your fingernails under the crack, on the outer/left hand side, at the top next to the circular hinge, between the the two halves of the handle, and snap it up (IT DOESN'T SLIDE, IT SNAPS). Insert two AAA size batteries. I use Energizer lithium batteries because they will last MANY years, they don't leak, and I won't have to worry about opening the battery case anytime soon. They're a little more expensive (about $8 for a 4 pack), but they're worth the money. (Don't forget how to open the battery case though since you won't have to do it for a long time!)TO CLOSE THE BATTERY CASE: With the magnifying glass laying on a table with the LED's facing up, lay the cover over the battery area with the right side down and push down on the left side until it snaps into place. It goes back on easy and it shouldn't be necessary to force it (don't break it).I would recommend this product.UPDATE: I've had this magnifying glass for quite sometime, and I've learned to love it. The LED still works fine, and I've gotten used to the small round magnifying area, and I actually use it when I need a REALLY strong view of something small. I love the slip cover that came with it w/ Velcro closure. I would recommend this magnifying glass.

Absolutely love it! The magnifying glass is big enough and the magnification is just great. I put it in my purse and use it when ever needed. Recently used it in a restaurant to read a menu and it worked perfectly. This is the best magnifying glass and I highly recommend it.
