does this item include the shoulder starp?

No. The Osprey Transporter 65 Duffel USED TO come with a shoulder strap, but the Transporter line was redesigned not long ago, and eliminating the cross-body shoulder strap was one of a bunch of changes that were made. They claim that people didn't use it, and I understand why. It's easy to carry the bag on your shoulder using just one of the two backpack straps.

If you're looking for the older version with the cross-body strap, I seem them available still in a lot of places. Look for the Amazon listing with older colors that aren't on the Osprey website (like haybale green, pointbreak grey, keystone grey, westwind teal, sub lime, ruffian red, kingfisher blue, and deepwater blue), and look at the photos: If there are two clips holding down the top flap, then it's the old model.

For my money, I prefer the newer design. In fact, I'd be willing to pay more for it. It's now even simpler and free of adornment, making it less likely to snag on things when traveling or being checked. The fabric had been really stiff and tough to collapse down. Now it's softer. And I think the clips at the flap were superfluous, particularly if you lock the zipper when traveling, and were just an extra step for opening/closing the bag.

Here are the changes you get with the newer version:
1. Eliminated the cross-body shoulder strap and the two clasps that it connects to on each side of the bag.
2. Killed the two extra clips that "clamped down" the zipper opening at the top (and with them the extra two female clips on the bag that they clipped into).
3. Recessed the backpack strap female clips deeper into the exterior fabric, so nothing is sticking out when you aren't using the straps
4. Flattened the 4 grab handles so they rest more snuggly against the surface of the bag.
5. "Softened" the fabric. It's now a smoother, less "crinkly" TPU coating all around, including on the bottom of the duffel.
6. Made the exterior pocket deeper, and the ID window accessible only from the inside of the pocket
7. Made the interior pocket just a little wider.
8. Made the interiors all bright-colored, to help see your *stuff*.
9. Made the mesh carry bag more lightweight and suitable for using as a packing cube.

Yes. It's coated with DWR (Durable Water Repellent). However it's not WATERPROOF. That requires the zippers to be sealed.
