Original Pilot Sunglasses - Silver - Calobar Green AOLite Nylon Lenses
American Optical has been with me since 1967. I bought a pair while in college and was issued a new pair upon entering USAF Undergraduate Pilot Training in 1969. Wore them during my 5 year stint and a few years after that. Those has a red tinted GLASS lens to accentuate the green of Vietnam from the air. Found them a couple of years ago and the plastic on the bayonet stems had shrunk about 1/4". Got my money's worth out of that pair.Fast forward this purchase: Nylon lenses, neutral grey color and polarized. These sunglasses fit just as my old ones did (52mm is right for my face). However, they are significantly lighter. The polarization on these is the most effective at reducing glare of ANY sunglasses I have ever worn. Phenomenal! I used them in the Florida Keys recently and could see things in the water no one else could. They are pricey compared to most sunglasses but they are worth it You get what you pay for in this case.At 75, I can rock my "Steely Eyed Killer of the Skies" look !

Wonderful clear lenses
I'll start out concurring with another reviewer, which is it seems like a good idea to order a size up. I went with 52mm based on the size chart from AO's website and the glasses fit, they aren't uncomfortable, but a couple more millimeters would only help. I like the lens sizes in the AOs, they are more standard/normal sized when the trend in aviator seems to be oversized lenses. They glasses are light but made of good material. The lenses are wonderful. I tend towards Oakley and Spy sunnies myself, and I find the AO lenses to be phenomenal in comparison. The polarization is great and I've not managed to scratch mine yet. The case they come with it leather but kind of cheap for $250ish glasses. A hard case or hybrid case would better reflect the expense of the glasses I think. Otherwise it comes in a thin cardboard box and with a lens cloth. All very practical and functional, much like the glasses.I am happy with them, I think they are very good glasses and they should be for the cost. I'd recommend trying them on first if possible.

"Daaaaang son those are nice."
Solid quality, great lenses, classic styling. These are a noticeable amount lighter than the Skymaster glass lenses, but ever bit as awesome.Maybe it's just because I never wear glasses, but I walked into a meeting wearing these and I suddenly knew what it was like to be the "cool kid" walking into the gym at a pep rally.I think it's the polarization that does it, but you get to see a pretty hint of rainbow glean across glossy surfaces sometimes. Mostly in the peripheral, but it's neat. Not really distracting. My kid keeps asking if she can have/"borrow" these and I'm like "guuuurl these cost as much as your gaming console." Maybe when she graduates High School or passes her drivers test.Something about these just screams special occasion despite being a simple classic solid look. The case and microfiber cloth could use a little work, but mostly just opinion there. I prefer a rock solid case, and these come in a semi-firm leather case with a flap. It holds up, but I don't think it could take a legit impact. The microfiber (which looks just like the image schematic of the glasses) seems to shed fuzz on the lenses. Not hard to find another cloth, and it looks really cool.If you can justify the price, because they ain't cheap, I absolutely recommend these. Trying to figure out if I can con my wife into letting me buy some of the other color/combos.

AO is a Quality American Made Pair of Shades
Living in the Sunshine State, it is safe to assume I am a collector of sunglasses. It is impossible to drive safely without them and quite uncomfortable to be outside anywhere during the day without sunglasses. Because of that I have tried the full spectrum of types and price ranges and have always found myself discovering that a good quality pair of sunglasses will run you anywhere from 150 (if on sale) to 400 depending on Brand and features. Having said that, these sunglasses are within that proper range. Most sunglasses are made by Luxottica, an italian company. Not that I dislike them but they seem to make EVERYONE's glasses, even dollar store glasses. Not these. These are made in America. Bonus score! They come packaged nicely and protected from scratches. You receive an authentic leather soft case to store them in. (Smells wonderful) and a nice size lens cloth, not the tiny ones most places give you. They are comfortable. The nose guard and ear guards are well made and do not snag or poke. These are the black NON-Mirrored Lenses that are polarized. While I am not a fan of poliarized lenses (it makes seeing screens and such difficult) some people prefer them and they offer more UV protection than NON polarized. Well, the lenses are clear viewing and block sun perfectly. I 100% recommend these sunglasses and all other American Optical brand shades for a great quality product!!
