GREAT product! Every poultry keeper should have in the cabinet.
I had a young Ameracauna pullet that was being plucked above her tail. Soon as pins came in, plucked again. Never "red" which is a normal condition of plucking, so I was confused. I ordered this in the aerosol spray version and bang! Never again was the bird plucked and the feathers immediately grew back. I agree with the other reviewers. It is purple and STAINS! So be careful is all. Don't spray a bird in your wedding dress.

Pecking feet
One of my hens feet kept getting pecked at until bleeding. I got this for the antiseptic part, and to see if the other chickens would STOP pecking her. Well her purple feet brought even more attention so what I end up doing is spraying ALLLLL of their feet purple 😂 and then they stop because they all have it 🤷🏻♀️ So when I see the purple is faded and they are pecking her foot again everybody gets lined up and everyone gets purple feet. It does help the owies on her feet heal up.

Amazing healing!
We love this for our chickens. They had painful bumblefoot. We soaked, and cleaned their feet with warm water and epsom salts. Rinse, dry off.Spray blue cote on the bottom of feet and affected areas. It starts to kill bacteria immediately.Swelling and pain disappears within days.❤️Wear disposable gloves and an old shirt though. Purple spray!

Works well for our Hens
We have a couple of Sussex hens mixed with our other Rhode Island Reds and one in particular seems to be constantly bullied for the plucking of butt feathers by certain other Reds. This spray will shoot from a distance, covers well and dries almost immediately. It is bright and will definitely stain your hands or other objects if you are concerned, as is mentioned in the product description. We have another brand for the same purpose but this is less expensive and seems to have the same end result. Anybody that raised chickens is aware of a "Pecking Order" for whose the boss if no rooster is present. This seems to eliminate any discomfort for our Sussex and others when plucked.

Excellent Product
If you have animals, and those animals do what animals sometimes do and get themselves scratched and scraped, you need this in your cabinet. This has been around a long time, and hopefully will continue to be around! I have used this product for years and years, or variations of it, on horses, goats, chickens, dogs, and a lizard that cut itself. You should wear disposable gloves, or waterproof gloves you will not mind being blue. This stains everything blue, but the animals will not lick it or peck it, it's antiseptic and germicidal, so the minor injury will not become a major injury.

Blue or purple?
This is a good product given the purpose. It does color EVERYTHING blue, so don’t try to do it alone. One person holds the chicken, the other sprays. It smells (and tastes terrible) and leaves a lingering scent so use where you have ventilation. We used it on a white and black Wyandotte and she’s now more purple lol. Her roommate likes to eat feathers so we were trying to curb that (it helped briefly). Wear gloves and clothes you don’t care if they get colored, you’ll be glad you did.

Effective-yes it works well!
I used this medication on small sores that a couple of chickens that had gotten when picked on by other chickens. The medication is messy and blue but worked very well. The sores are completely healed and there has not been any more picking. I suggest gloves when spraying / applying this medication.

Banned in Canada due to cancer risk
This was banned in Canada in June 2019. They recalled all bottles and canceled the manufacturers licenses and permits in Canada. I wish I knew that before I ordered my bottle and use it on my chickens.I haven't been able to verify it, but have since been informed by several people that you should never collect eggs from a hen you've sprayed with it.If you were considering this for chickens, stick with vetericyn instead and isolate the bleeding chicken to prevent pecking.
