MUCH better salads than pre-packaged!
Having purchased pre-packaged chopped salads for many months, I soon realized that we often missed the "Use by" date resulting in salads that were less than optimal and often were thrown out since they were forgotten. Using this mezzaluna makes creating our own fresh salads easy and delicious. I love the fact that it is dishwasher safe and includes the protective sheath.Since chopping salads can get messy, and the blade is so sharp that it is not appropriate for my cutting boards, I use a large stainless steel mixing bowl to prep my salads. The bowl helps to keep the ingredients in a "controlled environment" rather than all over the kitchen counter, too. I simply throw in a variety of salad components such as spinach, kale, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, cilantro, cabbage, etc. then chop away. There is no need to cut them into smaller pieces since the blade will do the job.Once the chopping is completed, I add sunflower kernels and seasoned sesame sticks purchased in bulk along with some olive oil and a little kosher salt. For ideas, you can always look at the ingredient lists on the pre-packaged chopped salad bags or there are many suggestions on the web.To ensure that my salad ingredients are always fresh, I have also purchased two sets of Rubbermaid produce savers Rubbermaid 7J93 Produce Saver Square Food Storage Containers Set of 8 Even the cilantro which normally survives only about 2-3 days has a much longer life of freshness when placed in one of the small containers. These containers also make choosing my salad components easy as I can just pull out all of the containers, take what I need, then return them to the refrigerator knowing that the ingredients will be fresh and ready to use the next time. For anyone who wants fresh salads that are healthy, delicious, and vibrant, I would highly recommend the combination of this mezzaluna and the Rubbermaid produce savers!

wonderful, make a chopped salad in minutes
I love chopped salads. But the prices for them are just crazy. A certain shop that sells subs nationally charges extra to put the ingredients in a bowl and chop it, and I don't even get the bread!I have tried several nice chopper in the past, with the two blades, but find them a pain to clean, even if I rinse them right away little bits of chopped greenery stays in between the blades. The KitchenAid Mezzaluna is super sharp, in fact, I used my cutting glove to hold onto the bowl just in case I slipped. However, the grip is super comfortable and fits my hand very well. I did a lot of chopping and the curved ergonomic handle keeps me from having hand fatigue or even feel as if I'm squeezing it super tight. The sheath fits well and makes for easy and safe storage.at the time I purchases this there was a large price discrepancy between colors. I am happy with black, and saving money, but it always is a good idea to check.remember to use a bowl for chopped salads or stainless steel as this will go through plastic and scratch glasshappy chopping!

I love this thing!!
I love this thing! It is sharp and it does the job! It has a little weight to it (not much) so that you know it is solid. It has a single blade so you don't have to worry about food getting stuck between two blades. The grip is not uncomfortable and it fits my small hand fine. I am using it with a glass bowl.So far I have made salads with spinach, lettuce, green pepper, cucumber, carrots, red cabbage, onion and slaw mix. Put the spinach on top. It chops better that way. I put tomatoes, chopped chicken and peas on it after I chopped it, but could have put the tomatoes and chicken in to chop. I find I need a lot LESS salad dressing when the salad is chopped. I don't have to dig around in my salad anymore looking for pieces of each thing to eat together. The chopping does it for me!I will be eating a lot more salads now!

NICE GIFT...WAIT, OH MY -- GREAT GIFT
My wife has rheumatoid arthritis. Thought it would be easier to use (less wrist action). True enough, it is!I'm just a husband from Indiana that likes to cook, and I am wondering why I never knew about this thing. Part of it I cannot pronounce it. (Mezzaluna )I rock it over celery and onions -- easier than a knife. I made a big sub sandwich, rocked it across it. Awesome!Pizza? Yep!It's a great way to cut lots of stuff. Very sturdy. It's better suited than a knife for many things. And the action is easier for people with arthritis.I might even learn how to pronounce Mezzaluna .

Great Price & Does The Job!
You could spend a lot more money on a high-end Mezzaluna. But you don't need to do so.I appreciate fine, expensive knives of all kinds and own more than a few because I'm a deranged foodie and spend a ridiculous amount of time in the kitchen. But with their high price tag, they come with the obligation to be cherished, handled with tender care, and jealously guarded from use/abuse by other ordinary mortals in the kitchen... like spouses, children, or significant others.Anyone can use this thing with glee.I wish I had this when my kids were young and eager to use a sharp knife while "helping" in the kitchen. With proper instruction and vigilant supervision, even children can safely use this mezzaluna to mince herbs, onions, or garlic and will be delighted to be doing real grown-up work in meal preparation. It's a plus to have the sheath to store it.This handy dandy Kitchen Aid model is sharp, easy to handle, does the job it's designed to do, and is so cheap in price, but not cheaply made.If it lasts a year or two I'll feel like I got my money's worth. I recommend it.

Great knife and a great price!
I bought this knife for chopped salads... it works very well! Comfortable handle, easy to hold and feels sturdy in your hand. I like that it has a cover for the blade. I have also been using it to cut herbs, pizza, all sorts of veggies and diced nuts. Why did I wait sooo long to buy one of these knives!?!?! I think anyone that spends any time in the kitchen would love this mezzaluna knife!
