I find that these type of sandwich cutters work best when used directly on a cutting board. It allows you to put enough pressure to correctly cut the bread. If you don't want to haul out your cutting board, all you have to do is push down and tear the crust away. As other reviewers have stated, this item is slightly too big for a regular sized loaf of commercial bread. You can get around this problem by using a larger loaf of bread than usual or just cut it in the way that best fits your bread. Your kiddo probably won't notice. I used it tonight to cut pizza dough to make heart shaped pizzas to include in my son's Valentine's Day lunch for tomorrow. It worked perfect. I'd give it another star if it were slightly smaller.

I really appreciate how easily this crust cutter slices through a sandwich. It is lightweight and easy to clean - but it does require a fairly large bread-size, in order to get the whole shape. Oftentimes, whole grain bread loaves are more "horizontal" than square, and the bread cutter doesn't fit at all. But if you prefer to eat lighter breads, or even white bread, it will likely be a perfect shape.Nevertheless, it is a delightful shape, and I'm glad I purchased it.

As expected. If you use square loaf bread you will have very minimal waste- pretty much only the crust. If you use the more rectangular shaped bread then you'll have more wiggle room to use the cutter, but there will be a bit of extra. I used this to make heart sandwiches for 100 kids at VBS and it worked really well. No problems cutting through the jelly sandwiches- might be more difficult if you use meat however.

This sandwich cutter does a decent job overall. The plastic usually cuts down into the sandwich but sometimes needs a little extra pressure or a knife to separate thick parts. It doesn't always fit the sandwich depending on the size of the bread but that is to be expected. But the kids that don't like crust love this cutter and I need to get more in different shapes/animals.

A friend gifted me with a dinosaur bread crust cutter to use at childcare. While making snacks for the kids, I got to thinking that there were probably more shapes available. I went right to Amazon and was pleased to find several other shapes available. I liked the dinosaur gift cutter so much and found that the kids loved having shape sandwiches so I ordered the heart shapped cutter and another. The cutters are easy to use and the kids eat a more substantial snace when I use them. I received the product quickly and in pristine condition!

it is super cute but I have a really hard time finding a bread that fits... either too wide but not tall enough or the other way around, most of the time the hearts are not full :( but my daughter still loves it so I do it!

I used this cutter for my son's camp sandwiches. It cuts the bread really well, and makes two cute little heart sandwiches. My only gripe is at the amount of bread/sandwich leftover (but I guess that's the case with most sandwich cutters). Great portion for little hands to hold comfortably.

makes the sandwich cute and enticing for my daughter, and doesn't waste too much in leftover bits after you cut. i used to use cookie cutters to make shapes for her, but this is much better.
