Got the job done for the lowest price
I just installed this in a 2010 vintage PS3 Slim, whose Blu-ray didn't get used that much, but decided to go belly-up after we'd bought a couple of Blu-ray movies. It got the job done, but was a bit more work than I anticipated. A Torx #8 Security driver or bit is a must. Make sure you take whatever disk is in your PS3 out BEFORE you power down your PS3 for disassembly. I made a lot of extra work for myself in not doing so with mine. When I tried to insert a disk in the drive after replacement of the laser lens assembly, the PS3 thought there was still a disk in the drive. I had to go to great lengths to dupe the system into thinking there was a disk in the drive to pull it off. The lens works great though, I just hope it will hold up for a while.

Intact
I bought this when my PS3 stopped reading discs. It was the cheapest option for fixing it and I performed the surgery myself. Unfortunately it did not fix the problem. I don't know if it's because the item was faulty. Since it didn't work I bought a complete replacement drive. I heard if the replacement lens doesn't work, it might be the motor. I would suggest replacing the whole drive so you don't have to take apart your system again and return this item if it's really the motor that's burned out.

Not the right lens
I ordered this lens in an attempt to fix my PlayStation 3, who's lens had given out.So I purchased it and dismantled my PlayStation several times in order to get it to function. But apparently the part I ordered did not match up with the serial numbers on the disc housing compartment.I am not saying to not buy it, but to be sure and do your homework and research before trying to do fix it yourself. So I couldn't use it and bought an Xbox instead lol

Instant fix for ps3 faulty lens!
I'm going to review this item with a little story of my personal problem.I had a really weird issue with my ps3 (i own the 120gb version since launch), it started like 3 years after i bought the console. When i started playing dual layer bluray disc games such as Final Fantasy XIII the console would start struggling to read the disc, it would spend like 1-3 minutes just reading the disc then emit a sound like when you were going to eject the disc, made the sound, wouldn't eject the disc, stopped reading it and nothing would appear on the XMB, pretty much it seemed like it was unable to read the disc, so i had to eject the disc, reinsert it and keep doing it until it read the disc (sometimes i would play some other game so the console would heat up a little bit and then for some reason it would read the disc much easily). At first i only had the problem with dual layer discs, also it would only happen sometimes, but the problem got worse, it passed from sometimes to always, then it passed from always dual layer discs to always dual layer discs and sometimes single layer discs (so pretty much all games!) i kinda stopped playing games altogether, i had to spend like 5-10 minutes just to play a game!, making it read Uncharted 3 (Dual layer bluray) was a pain. I found a temporary solution that allowed me to play single layer disc, if i inserted the disc and lifted the console a little bit from the front, at least 30 degrees it would read it!, it worked 90% of the times but then it aroused yet another problem, it started to damage the hdmi connector on the back of the console because it would stress the cable and the connector when i lifted the console. I had already bought this product almost a year earlier but i never installed because i wasn't playing much at the time and lacked some screwdrivers, but when i got the Uncharted 3 and the Resident Evil 6 i definitely wanted to play again so i got the screwdrivers, i looked up some how-to youtube videos, i replaced the lens and the console have been working like new ever since.Special note: I also noticed that my console would get really hot and the fans would go crazy, also while in-game, some games would last a little bit longer on their load screens, had some audio issues and some other minor problems. All of this got fixed by replacing the lens, my guess is that the console was forcing so much on reading the disc that started to overheat and i thought that as soon as it read the disc the first time it wouldn't give problems again until i wanted to play the console again but it seems that wasn't the case since the lens seemed to be failing while playing the game. The lens pretty much saved my console, it's just as when i bought it, reads everything as fast as the first time, all the issues are gone and i'm proudly a ps3 gamer again. This product is a must if your're having any kind of problems with your lens.

Started to fail in under a month, returned
UPDATE: Worked great for a couple weeks such that my game was defaulted to selected after the PS3 booted every single time. Then disc recognition started to get delayed so my game was never defaulted to selected. A week later and the disc wasn't visible at all by the time boot completed and I heard the PS3 make the chunking sound it makes to try to pull the disc in again and retry reading it. It finally saw the disc but this is the exact same behavior my old failing laser had and it's only been a month, so I'm returning it (luckily I caught it on the last day of the return window). So I had to spend another 2-3 hours taking my PS3 apart again and putting it back together with a new laser. I went with another listing that's $10 more with a 1-year warranty, sold by Nextek and fulfilled by Amazon: New - Sony PS3 Laser Lens (KES-450A/ KES-450AAA/ KEM-450A/ KEM-450AAA) After I installed it, my discs were once again recognized before the system finished booting. When I was returning the failing laser I noticed it had a white and black QR code sticker on it that looked very similar to the QR sticker on the original laser in the PS3 except it says "KEM-450 DAA" at the top. That's the model number of the laser used in PS3 slim around 2011, so I would think that means it should have been a high quality OEM part, but I could also believe that Sony picked cheaper, lower-quality lasers to put in over time and that's why KEM-450 DAA is cheaper than the older KES-450A. Note that based on a little online investigating, it appears that both lasers are made by the same company, Zhonghao Photoelectric Co., Ltd.Of course the $10 more listing mentions a bunch of different model numbers so you might get any of the ones mentioned, but the "KEM-450 DAA" is not mentioned. Since THIS product listing says "KES-450A" all over it and no other model numbers, I don't think it was appropriate for Autolizer to send me anything other than the KES-450A in the first place, even if other models are supposedly compatible. I'm also frustrated they didn't pay for return shipping (most companies do when an item is defective). After I gave them a bad review, they called me on my phone offering to send me a free laser in exchange for removing the review, which I find annoying and highly suspicious (they won't pay return shipping but they'll give me an actual working and not-going-to-fail $30 item for free just to remove feedback? Not likely). Are they trying to avoid a "paper trail" by calling instead of emailing in case I complain to Amazon that they're pressuring a buyer to remove feedback (which is against Amazon's policies)?Original review:Installed in my 2009 CECH-2001A PS3 slim today and game loaded up fast and on the first try. Before replacement I had to put the game in and wait up to about 3 minutes for it to finally give up and stop spinning the disc. Oddly it never reported an error, it just didn't show the disc and stopped trying to read it. I would then have to eject the disc and wait again. Over time it took longer and longer to get it to recognize the disc. Oddly, once it recognized the disc it generally ran the game or bluray movie fine. I did get the occasional game freeze during loading screen, usually after sound cut out, but not very often. Most instructions I found online explained how to replace the whole big silver assembly that contains this small laser module. The big silver assembly includes the brass-colored cork screw that moves the laser up and down the disc. To remove the laser module, you must remove one of the round metal bars (the one on the side with the brass corkscrew) that the laser module uses as a track to slide up and down on. This is significantly harder than replacing the whole big assembly, but cheaper. Apparently the clips they use to hold the metal bar on have changed a number of times because my clips looked nothing like in the video I found. It wasn't too hard to figure out how to get them off, but be warned: My assembly had silver screws under each bar and the screws were coated with light blue glue. Removing the screws would have loosened the bar, but I'm pretty sure they are used to fine tune the height of the bar so the laser head runs exactly over the disc surface. If you break the glue on those screws, you'll probably have problems as they won't stay adjusted to the correct height anymore, if you can even get them back to the correct height. The video I used was by "fixmyplaystation" but as I said his clips were quite different than mine.I wanted to mention what Playstation models laser KES-450A is supposed to be compatible with for the benefit of future buyers:Compatible with the following models (where x can represent any number or letter):CECH-20xxA (ie CECH-2001A) 120 GBCECH-21xxA (ie CECH-2101A) 120 GBCECH-20xxB (ie CECH-2001B) 250 GBCECH-21xxB (ie CECH-2101B) 250 GBAnother thing to keep in mind is that any seller can come in and sell using a pre-existing product listing, and this one is a prime target for unscrupulous sellers since it has a 5-star rating (currently). What they send you is supposed to match the listing, but since this listing is rather vague I feel it's something of a gamble what you'll actually get. At least this listing says it will have a six-month warranty and Amazon should be able to force sellers to honor that since it says it in the listing. Definitely only buy the laser in this listing from sellers with a high rating (say, over 97%) and report to Amazon if they won't let you return one that's immediately defective or breaks within six months. If you want something likely to last longer, there are other listings with a 1-year warranty and claims they will send you a Sony original part, but they cost almost twice as much.
