St. Cloud (Images of America)

If you are interested in post-Civil War America here is a wonderful book for you. St. Cloud was a town largely settled by Union Army veterans starting in 1909. Through narrative and vintage photographs the reader can learn a lot about such things as the draining of Central Florida, the coming of the railroads and the growth of popularity of retirement in Florida. St. Cloud is a vibrant small city today situated close to Disney World but in many ways a world away. I would really recommend that you use the book to educate yourself about St. Cloud and then pay the town a visit. You can learn a lot about early 20th century America. This includes women's suffrage, the Grand Army of the Republic, early banking, and honoring our veterans.

This was wele done and the pictures made it even more interesting too.Even better, I grew up in the area and knew alot of the locations menitoned or pictured, Of course years later.I didn't know the rich background of the area. So much has come and gone over the years.Great to learn how that part of central Florida came to be.
