Great book
I love this book, and even though it was something we used for homeschool, I’m glad to have it in my library. Shipping was quick and great customer service when I duplicate ordered and had to send one back.

Captivating instructive historically accurate
TWICE FREED, by Patricia St John has made a real impact on our family. We read it aloud and found it both CAPTIVATING and INSTRUCTIVE. The author basically tells a story about Onesimus and his slave-master Philemon--two lesser known characters from the New Testament. The story line, depth of character development, and ease of reading will appeal to CHILDREN; The remarkable true-to-the-first-century AD grasp of early Christianity, history, social structure, geography and Bible characters will fascinate more MATURE READERS who have an interest the Bible.Patricia St. John manages to follow Onesimus from Colosse to Ephesus, Laodicia, etc. and eventually to Athens and Rome. Along the way Onesimus keeps running into those who have been saved and caught up in this strange upstart religion: Christianity. Short of telling the whole plot, Philemon (the master) becomes a Christian as well as many in his household. Onesimus (the slave) resents/ hates his master and through the book is running not only from his master, but from the Christ whose people keep popping up in his life and demonstrating their Savior's love.WE WERE ENCOURAGED by reading this book to be more like those Christian people who keep popping up in the lives of those running from the One we so love. We've read several of this author's books and have come to appreciate her ability portray real characters with an eye to what is going on at the level of the conscience.I had a friend of mine who has a PhD in NEW TESTAMENT STUDIES and has visited these archeological sites numerous times read the book and tell me what he thought of the book in terms of historical details. He felt that they are very accurate in most cases.I'M RECOMMENDING the book to Christians both young and old, but probably the intended audience is 10-20 range. PARENTS, especially--read it aloud to the family; talk about it. I pray that you'll be blessed by this book as we have been.

I'd sell my rock collection to buy this
Struggling to trust that Jesus is the only way? Buy this book! (Okay, or read the gospel of John.) After I finished "Twice Freed," I opened the book of Philemon and I WAS FLOORED. I knew all the people Paul spoke about in Philemon!! My faith in Christ, my love of him, and my excitement for life all ricocheted up to heaven. This book lauds gentleness, but also displays the rougher, more painful aspects of life. I saw my burdens etched on to the pages, and also the great hope and glory I have in Christ. Absolutely, 100% recommend for Jesus' sheep - i.e., you!

Interest-Holding Inspirational and Historic Reading
Patricia St. John had a gift in writing page-turning novels. For "Twice Freed," she went to all of the places in Asia where the apostle Paul had ministered, and took copious notes. She also carefully studied the situation, places, and person of the slave Onesimus, who is the main character of this story, and found in the book of Philemon, in the Bible. It has the excitement of the Bible movies, the historicity of an architect, and the inspirational writing of the godly woman that Miss St. John was. Highly recommended for young people and up. As a couple of grandparent age, we could hardly wait to read the next chapter together!

I absolutely loved it and enjoyed it
I don't usually write reviews on here, but felt compelled to on this little book.A real page turner, I absolutely loved it and enjoyed it.Although none of us know the real story behind Philemon and Onesimus, this story really brings it to life in a wonderfully imaginative way! All the while fully honoring God, His Word, and Christ throughout. Highly recommend it. You'll not be disappointed.

A great story woven around the Bible and providing historical detail ...
A great story woven around the Bible and providing historical detail of the life of a slave at the time and his radical transformation. I would recommend this to anyone interested in 1st Century life and to all children aged 10-15.
