A practical and creative treasury of flavor blends
I already own this book and have enjoyed many of the herb blends and herbal butters in it. I haven't been able to find this book since my home was burglarized and vandalized a year ago, so I bought it again. I had hoped to find it in the piles of my broken and ruined belongings that the dirty losers left behind, but apparently they stole this book. I guess even bottom-feeders want good-tasting food. The blends you find here are original, developed by the author, not just a listing of copycat blends you can buy in a store. Miss Balmuth gives good ideas for how to use her creations, too. I like to make several of the herbal butters and cheese spreads and serve them in fancy little bowls or plates along with slices of miniature homemade bread loaves and good crackers for a fancy afternoon tea party with friends. The blends and butters are excellent on vegetables, too. If you like potatoes, you could eat yourself into a coma with all the possibilities for herbed mashed or boiled potatoes! But don't let me scare you - they are just as good on green vegetables and meat, too, so you can definitely eat healthy with these blends. Let your culinary imagination fly with this book!

MAKE YOUR OWN BLENDS AND SAVE $$$
Since I have nearly every herb and spice known to man I decided it was foolish to keep wasting money on seasoning mixtures i.e., taco seasoning, Italian seasoning. Cajun seasoning, etc. I went to World Market and bought some attractive little spice jars and ordered this book. Great decision! I am on a very low sodium diet and have to make everything including condiments from scratch. I was surprised and delighted to find a whole chapter of salt-free seasonings and another chapter that had only a couple of recipes that contained salt. The book even has blends to put in your home made bread. I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys creative cooking and has an adventurous palate. I'm just using the daylights out of this book.

Spicy Ideas
For anyone who loves flavoring food with spices and herbs, this book is for you. There are many recipes to choose from, ideas for mixing your favorite spices and pairing them together for your own blends. If you take the simplest of foods, you can add a little spice and herb blend that you know you love, and it puts that food into a whole different light. You can experiment with your blends and you'll have favorites. The experimenting with the recipes you'll find in this book will be endless.

Great resource!
This is a great book for everyone who gardens, or shops farmers markets, or just likes to make creative and wonderful gifts. It's also a great money-saver. I have had this book for some years, and gave a copy to my grandson who is just setting up housekeeping on his own. He's also a man who loves to cook.

A Unique book
I ordered this for my brother for Christmas and it arrived in less than 24 hours. He wanted a book that would describe how to make his own spice blends for cooking. This one fits the bill. Great Recipes!
I bought this as a gift for someone and i almost didn't want to give it away, but instead I bought one for myself as well. Great gift for anyone who likes to cook!

Would be nice as a supplemental cook book
If you are only choosing one book to learn and use spices , I'd skip thisone. t makes a nice additional one though. The recipes are a little more exotic than I had hoped, and there were too few 'down to earth' more common spice blend recipes. It is well written and illustrated.

For those who prefer home-made blends....
This is a nice little book, jam-packed with some good recipes.The contents include chapters on appetisers/butters/dressings, multipurpose blends, no-salt blends, meat and seafood seasonings, Italian seasonings, specialty blends, desert blends, herbal teas and my favourite, chapter 5 - Make it Spicy!My only gripe is that it is blatantly American, with a state-by-state listing of recipe contributors, which is literally useless to me! It does though have two pages of custom labels for jars and/or bottles, which can be copied and printed off. They're a little bland and colourless for my liking, but 10/10 for effort!
