IT is working for me in several tanks
this is my first time using one of the all natural bio media options out there but this is what i went with.honestly it just works for me. ive not tried other options in the same vain like matrix or a bio block or live rock ect. most of my filtering needs are met with several different types of sponge filter media and bio balls but i still needed more filtration to deal with some overcrowding and a few spikes of ammonia here and there . i can't say anything about those other products being better or worse but after having used these now for about a yr between 2 separate purchases and monitoring everything, they seem to hold up to their claims. i have not had any of the rocks break down or dissolve in any way, i havent needed to or seen a reason to clean them due to built up of any kind, and it has stabilized a heavily overpopulated 80gal via a small custom sump housing a 3in turtle 3 large goldfish, a 6in pleco, 2 dozen mixed species of minnows and has very few plants helping the biosphere so all in all for that reason alone i will say i like this product. but i also added some into my 30gal shrimp tank and 55gal community tank as well that sometimes struggle when i can't get around to regular tank maintenance from everyday life and i have been happy with the results from that. its not an excuse for poor maintenance but lets face it if it makes life easier its a win win if it does its job-that was kind of my thought before buying and it has been working for me. most hang on back filters seem under engineered or just lacking all to often anyways. even with aTetra Whisper EX Silent Multi-Stage Power Filter (witch i vastly overpaid for locally) on my 55 heavily planted tank had more fluctuations than it should ill spare the details, im going on and on and probably could keep doing so but again its working for me and besides a little dust in the box from shipping and a few rocks that floated when first adding them to water i have no other problems with it. i didnt even bother to rinse or wash em before adding them to my tanks to avoid contaminates.

Interesting stuff
This one was a saga of ordering, order cancelling, reordering, and still arriving late. What is a body to do?!I had ordered this from Aquatic Arts by request, I've never used the product before. Due to delays it was going to arrive too late for the scheduled setup, so I canceled the original order and placed a new order that was supposed to deliver the day before I needed it. Well life being what it was, it ended up getting shipped from Aquatic Arts anyways, and arriving a day late. I'm guessing Amazon's back ordered product never arrived, so they passed the order on to Aquatic Arts for fulfillment. So, now I have a box of product i've never used and no aquarium to try it out in. Solution? Dump it in the beta tank! /shrugOverall, it seems like an interesting product, I look forward to having a large aquarium to actually try it out in.It's neutrally buoyant, so while it does sit on the bottom of the tank, it's not heavy and will slowly work its way out from under heavier substrate.I had to give it a really really good rinse as there was quite a lot of sandy dust covering the material. I can't figure out if this is man made or some naturally occurring material. I'd say it was man made, except that they really do look like natural rocks, with many different appearances, and no real uniformity. For now, I dumped a handful into my Beta's 5 gallon. This is a planted tank, I'm really curious to see how it effects plant growth.

So far so good, I think this is on par with EHEIM's ...
So far so good, I think this is on par with EHEIM's overpriced media. I'm using it in a DIY corner filter and it's just started but looking at it and feeling it gives me good vibes. The price is at a good point for the quality of the product. Time will tell but it looks like this stuff will provide superior surface area to bioballs and the like. I can say for now it's well worth the price and seems to live up to the description they've given. Every Aqua Arts product ordered so far has been a money saver for me as they allow YOU the consumer to configure your filter and at a fraction of the price of premades. Good Job Aquatic Arts.

8% not useful, the rest is pummice
Upon arrival most of the stone was pummice with 9 stones being other non-porous rock. The total weight of non-porous rock was about 80 grams, meaning that 8% of this product is not useful. The stone cleaned nicely and did not crack or shatter when heated to 450°F for 1 hour. Overall it appears to be decent media with a good amount of surface area. Note though that some of these stones will float for a while, so do not plan on using these in an area that they can float away or get caught in pumps etc

I was having trouble with holding a good cycle, even with seeded material
Has helped me stabilize my 3 month old reef. I was having trouble with holding a good cycle, even with seeded material. 2 months later the tank is very mature with these stones and I just removed all sand and went bare bottom 2 weeks ago. No spike whatsoever in any parameters. I will soon make a jug of saltwater to take the media bag these are in and rinse vigorously to help remove any material, although I have only trace Nitrates. I am thinking if I rinse the bag ever 2 or 3 months or so, when I clean my sump and PS, that will help with any buildup. Fills a 6 x 4 media bag, roughly.
