Shantae: Half-Genie Hero - Risky Beats Edition - PlayStation Vita

A great game, but I have a few gripes
I've been a fan of Shantae ever since Risky's Revenge came out for the DSi, and I've played every game since (including the original). What really got me into the series was the quirky dialogue, tight controls, great level design, and the whole "metroidvania" style of gameplay. As somebody who grew up playing a lot of 2D Metroid games (i.e. Metroid Fusion, Super Metroid, Zero Mission), I love the whole metroidvania style of games.I missed this game when it was a Kickstarter project (which still kinda sucks), but when I first learnt about this game, I was really hoping that it would return to its metroidvania roots. Instead, I got a game that has "world hubs" and short levels.Don't get me wrong, this game is still very fun and the visuals/music are stellar, but I was really hoping for more metroidvania-style gameplay. Also, this game has too many transformations, in my opinion. In the original Shantae, animal transformations were used primarily as a means to puzzle-solving in dungeons (oh yeah, 1/2 Genie Hero doesn't have dungeons), but the amount of transformations you need to do in this game gets rather tiresome after a while. There is also a lot of backtracking, which is typically okay for me in a metroidvania-style game (like Axiom Verge), but it gets rather boring in this game, due to the world "hubs."Now that I have all the gripes out of my system, I can talk more about the positives. Like I said earlier, it's a very fun game with amazing visuals/music. This game has the same Shantae "feel" of the other games. If you've played the other games, you'll like 1/2 Genie Hero. The addition of the music track CD is a nice touch. All in all, I think it's worth the cash. If it were $60, I wouldn't be so sure.TL;DR - 1/2 Genie Hero, while a very beautiful and fun game, falls a little short when it came to my own subjective expectations. The amount of transformations and backtracking gets a little tedious and tiresome, but it's not a deal-breaker. If you already like Shantae, or platformers in general, you'll like this game.

wonderful game & soooo much fun
playing this on wiiU again after playing it on ps4 as i can't get enough of this gamebest fun i had in the last 2 years its cheerful and funny characters with hilarious dialogs at timesgameplay is smooth with each transformation gives a distinct need to explore more of each level and 100% makes it also extra fun .omg the music is just super amazing as its super catchy , this also comes with a disk that has some of the games tracks but not allthe extra modes are worth playing too as well as the free BJ mode also keeps you coming for morehonestly this game is a timeless as platformer and well made , any system you play this game it'll be worth it even this Wii U version

Very enjoyable, but a bit lacking here and there.
I started the whole Shantae series with "Pirate's Curse", because I wanted to play "Half-Genie Hero" but also wanted to know what was before, story-wise. I am now playing "Risky's Revenge", which is the one before "Pirate's Curse". Of the 3, I'd say that "Pirate's Curse" is the best by far, "Half-Genie" being second and "Risky's Revenge" far behind. If you're familiar with Shantae's world, Half-Genie is really fun to play, stunningly beautiful and fluid and fun, while keeping some level of platforming difficulty. On the other hand, while some platforming may make you throw your controller/console out of rage, the game is usually too easy : money is easy to get and very soon you've got yourselves all the items from the item shop, which makes you overpowered. You don't even have to worry nor think of a strategy for some boss fights, you're just trading blows and heal yourself, something that is just inconceivable in "Pirate's Curse".Also, while transformations are usually used enough to justify them, the sonar skill and the spider transformation are used just once each (you may transform into a spider more often if you please, but it's only required once by the game). Also, the story is not super developed and the whole game is a bit too straightforward. Enjoyable, but lacks a bit of depth. In this episode, Shantae's series truly shows its affiliation with the Metal Slug series, a feeling that I had already with the previous episode, but that became truly obvious with this one, thanks to the very fluid animation and high-quality graphics that let you enjoy more of some goofy backgrounds (the mermaid factory comes to mind). If you're already a fan of the series, you will enjoy meeting the characters again. If you're not already acquainted with them, you may want to start with Pirate's Curse (Risky's Revenge is not really a great game and doesn't give you much of a story either) to enjoy this one even more.

Great game, great sountrack, a little on the short side, would be great for speed runners though.
Man this game did such a great job at bringing me back the feels i gotfrom playing the Wonder Boy games waay back on the Genesis. The animation is fluid and gorgeous , The Boss fights entertaining and the Music .... this sound track is amazing and this version of the titel comes with the Soundtrack what else can you ask for.My one complaint is .. too short. I may just be good at these games because i grew up playing them in my pre teens but man i wish there were more hrs of content .. its a gret game to speed run though.

Shantae: Half Genie Hero for the Psvita is fantastic 2.5D Action platform game at is Super fun to play.this game has great music, HD Graphic ,great Boss battles/platforming and level design and you can change the difficulty of the game by buying magic/armour/weapon upgrade's if a level is too difficult plus there is a good amount of secret/hidden areas/items in games.and highly recommend this game as must own for the Psvita Console and its region Free and with the risky beats edition you get a physical copy of the games and full cd soundtrack with 30 tracks on it.but I only recommend buying a physical copy if you a collector because the game is incomplete and still has the extra risky boots DLC content to be released.

Great Game. Very boobie'ish.
Great platform game. Would recommend buying this sooner rather then later. As the Vita versions of games get snatched up rather quickly.
