The Hoya 72mm Ultraviolet (UV) Multi-Coated Glass Pro 1 Digital Filter is designed for professional photographers seeking to enhance image quality. Its digital multi-coating significantly reduces lens flare and ghosting, while the black almite frame minimizes reflections. The low-profile design prevents vignetting, and the knurling edge allows for easy handling, making it an essential tool for capturing stunning visuals.

... reviews are from 2007-2010 and that technology has gotten better since then like the multi coating that propels water ...
I was a little reluctant to purchase this due to the fact that a lot of the reviews are from 2007-2010 and that technology has gotten better since then like the multi coating that propels water and dust off, but those filters are 80-150 U.S. dollars. I've also read some reviews that when ordering these Hoya filters that are made in Japan you would sometimes get one from the Philippines but that wasn't the case with this one. I couldn't be more satisfied with this filter and my lens cap stays on great even though it is low profile frame, in fact the lens cap stays on better now then without it. I can't tell you how many times I grab my camera out of my bag and the lens cap wasn't on it while I didn't have a filter on it and thankfully there has been no damage to the actual lens from this. To be honest I haven't done any tests to see how the pictures come out with or without it on and I simply purchased this to protect my lens but the pictures I have taken with this are tact sharp on my Sony 16-50mm f2.8 lens.

Extremely Important On A Very Expensive Camera
I put this UV Filter on my Nikon 650 for protection. I have not found any difference in picture quality with or without; thus it is great to have. Just recently returned from Yosemite National Park in which my camera strap broke allowing the camera to fall about 4ft on to a hard surface. There was no damage to the camera body, the lens, and the mechanical/optical functions/operation of camera and lens, but the filter glass broke in 3 places with a ding on the filter ring. Again no damage to the camera or the lens ($1,200 lens). The camera body has a permanent leather case protecting the body. This filter is worth every bit of its price and then some.

Hoya 72mm UV Filter
This filter is excellent, provides nice sky contrast on my Nikon AF-S Nikkor 18-200mm VR GED lens. Was a little hard to mount on my lens threads because they had become a little dirty and dinged over the years... After I corrected that problem, it went on fine, even though the threads are very fine. Used the old backthreading trick...I use it as a lens protector, as well as a filter. It got an excellent rating at a technical camera website

Great Lens Protection!
Fantastic product!I've been buying Hoya filters for decades and have NEVER been disappointed. In the old days I bought mostly CC (Colour Correction) filters, but today, because of post processing software like Adobe Camera Raw, Lightroom, Photoshop and more, I only use UV/Skylight filters to protect the front elements of my lenses. In the early days, the filters were great, but now they are even better. This filter is BEAUTIFUL! The multi-coated glass is brilliant, the thinner metal mount (less vignetting, specially if stacking filters like ND's) and the fact that the edge of the glass is blacked even further reduces internal flair and reflections. Add to that, that Hoya is the world's largest optical glass manufacturer... Need I say more. If you are looking for the BEST filter to protect your expensive lenses, you can't do any better than Hoya, period!

Best UV Filter i could find for the price
According to lenstip.com, this filter along with the Hoya HMC Haze UV(0) - 72 mm , is the #1 performing model of filter out of the 20 or so that they tested, including ones from expensive manufacturers like B+W.Tests included spectral transmission using a photospectrometer, lens flare testing, and vignetting. Personally I think they should have put a little more weight on the flare tests which might have upped the ranking of one of the B+Ws, but it likely wouldn't have made much difference in the cost/benefit ranking. The Hoya HMC Haze UV(0) - Filter - UV - 72 mm is just as good as this one, performance wise, but supposedly the Pro1 Digital is just more solidly constructed. I don't have one of the HMCs so I can't really compare. Anyway, if you want to save some money you might go for the HMC version.I'm using these on 2 $1000 lenses.

great for wide angle lens
Purchased to use for Nikon wide angle lens since it is a low profile. The filter works great to protect the lens. I prefer Hoya because their rings are easier for me to put on and remove. While not the cheapest UV filter, I think that since I spent so much on the lens that spending a little more on a filter makes sense because why compromise the quality of the lens with a poor filter. I have had a filter crushed on a lens and the lens been unharmed. I keep UV filters on all lens.

Crystal Clear Image, great value
I don't buy the idea from some Youtubers that you don't need a UV filter. Maybe for those with a lot of cash, they can afford to be careless but I need to protect my Fuji 16-80mm lens (which I live by the way!). No color cast on this filter and super slim profile (always get the made in Japan filters from Hoya!)

Cracked case/package, dirty upon arrival
I must have received the bottom of the stock. First, the black support ring inside of the package/box (not the filter itself) was broken and a piece fell out of the filter case when opened. You could hear a rattling sound before the filter box was opened. Hopefully it was not sliding around on the surface of the filter. Second, the filter was very dirty when I opened the package. Definitely required a good amount of cleaning. Third, it took some finesse to get it threaded onto my lens. Maybe the threads were off or there was some debris in the threads (which would not be surprising given the broken plastic piece and all of the dust, particles in the package).I have purchased these exact same Hoya Pro1 filters as well as other Hoya filters before, from Amazon and from others, and have never had any of these issues. Not sure if this was actually a "used" filter rather than new as advertised, or shipping damage, or if Hoya simply screwed this one up, but this was not a good purchase this time....Based on my prior purchases of this exact same filter for other lenses, 5 stars, but for this purchase, 2-2.5 stars.

Multi-coated good quality filter.
This is a good quality filter, the ring is made of metal, the glass is multi-coated. I have not experienced any ghosting shooting into a light source. The price is attractive.

Bel achat!
Je ne suis pas une pro de la photo mais ce filtre à donné un très beau résultat à mes photos en Afrique, où la luminosité était menaçante pour la qualité et puis ça a bien protégé mon objectif des éclaboussures lors des balades en canoë!

Very good quality lens filter.
Very good filter.I must admit that buying a filter is not by any means an easy feat. The range on websites such as Hoya are not by any means easily distinguishable.Would be nice if manufacturers use a table to identify the key differences between each of the types.Anyway, back to this Pro-1 Digital UV filter, it's very good.I read some of the reviewers complaining about smears etc. on the filter. If you handle with care you'd be ok.To make sure it's cleaned properly I've found its best to use a soft lint-free cleaning cloth. Microfibre cloth MAY be too harsh. The filter screws onto Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM Lens very easily. Unscrewing it is also very easy. Keep the protective case to hand and always put it in there if the filter were to be removed. The Hoya 72mm Pro-1 Digital UV Screw in Filter is very good because it has:Digital multi-coated filters to greatly reduce the appearance of lens flare and ghosting caused by reflections.black matte aluminum satin finish almite frame which is designed to reduce reflections.I quite like the black rimmed glass which is designed to reduce the chance of light reflecting off the edge. The Ultra thin filter frames help to avoid vignetting (especially for super wide angle lenses - not an image sue with Primes), the thin frame is also designed to hold a lens cap easily. In summary, the look and feel, the functionality, the ease of use, and the quality of the glass are all good.

Nice quality item. Does its job!
I fully admit to being irrationally OCD when it comes to my camera gear, and as digital sensors do not require a UV filter, I mainly bought this just to protect the front of a Sony Zeiss 50mm f1.4 (72mm diameter) from dirt and fingerprints. The biggest compliment I can pay it is that it's invisible and doesn't appear to have any effect on picture quality whatsoever (not to my pixel-peeping eye anyway!). I mostly do my shooting indoors, not out in bright sunlight or shooting night scenes so I can't comment on its performance in that area.Construction, fit and finish is nice, the matt finish ring looks quality and the printing is sharp.Despite what some reviews say, these are definitely genuine items (always buy from Amazon, not 3rd party sellers) and the price is great. No complaints at all.
