This book is part of a very good series, each book of which highlights one of the states. I've read others in the series and found them informatinve and entertaining.I have to admit that I had the wrong impression when I picked this book up. Others in the series have a bent towards natural attractions and, while I've never been to Illinois (yet!), I pictured in my mind grittiness of Chicago and that's about it.Surprisingly, I found this book quite engaging. While there isn't a great deal of natural attractions there is enough in this book to make me want to visit the state, particularly the description of historical and uban attractions such as the Illinois State Museum , Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, the Museum of Science and Industry and the Chicago Great Western Railway Depot.Overall, this is a good read, particularly if you have not been to Illinois and don't know much about what it has to offer,

I love reading travel guides and discovering new cities, sights, and activites. This is the second guide I have read by this author and it does not disappoint. One of the cool things about the guide is it begins with an interesting introduction to the state. This is a great way to begin the guide and it got me more interested in seeing Illinois.I enjoy finding off the beaten track activities as well as major attractions, and these are offered here as well. Whether one is driving through the state or staying for some time, there are many interesting destinations to be found. From hiking trails to museums, sports, amusement parks, big city attractions, and small time charm is found here.If the destination has a cost, it is listed in the guide. There are also lots of freebies which is fun, too.

Great book to have before visiting Illinois. GREAT list of attractions and places to visit + author gives recommendations for the time of visit and price for tickets where needed. The only thing that I missed in this book is pictures! Before seeing the place, it’s hard to decide what you prefer to visit. Please add pictures!

A summary review of sites to see in Illinois. More details and photos would have complimented well the simple text. Also dividing the sites by national parks, museums, city vs country attractions and putting them in alphabetical order for easy retrieval would have been beneficial for the reader.
