Can someone testify that it's worth the extra $80 to get this model with uvc (bu110) vs. the discontinued but still-for-sale older model (cv710)?

It has UVC compatibility. It has no need for drivers on Windows or Mac. It is supported in newer Windoes ans Mac versions and on third part applications on Mac.

How do you check the firmware version?

What are the file formats and encoders ? ( does it supports hdcp also ?)

We would recommend the record Format to be MPEG 4 as BU113 doesn’t support HDCP.
