Difficult Scenario
Let's get the basics out of the way. Pricing was fine, delivered without issue & without damage. The product itself is nice. We get a great hero who benefits from side quests, which are included in both encounter sets & in player card form. This makes him a great hero to pair with Kahliel, the previous adventure pack inclusion, since his other ability starts the game with a side quest. Starting with The Storm Comes makes Kahliel a happy dude! The decks are starting to build themselves! Most of the player cards are nice, making you feel pretty great about the purchase. Then you play the scenario. Hard. Damn. Really hard. It's another Escape from Dol Guldur as far as I am concerned. True solo felt impossible with my favorite deck. Easy mode helps but with a limited card pool, trying to build something from scratch to take it on felt pretty limiting. I love a good challenge but this was the first time I felt like I wasn't having fun. The scenario sees you competing with a band of orcs, who have their own staging area & quest cards. You are trying to race them to complete all your quest cards before they complete theirs. The idea is actually pretty great & returning to this scenario after a while helped me to appreciate & reappraise. I am glad that I took so long to review this. Another run through is what bumped this from an overall three star review (product not service, seller is great, just to be clear) to a four star review. I knew what to expect, my skills & card pool grew as well. It's still incredibly hard but this time it felt fun & manageable. I love the storytelling in this game & noticed others have as well but for newer players I have a hard time recommending it. Escape From Umbar is a superior race quest in every way. The second pack in the Harad Cycle is worth a look, but only if you feel ready for it.
