Terrific , informative social document with lovely personal touch
I found this book fascinating . Victoria Finlay unpicks through each individual chapter relating to a specific fabric, the cultural , economic, scientific, and causes and effects on society and at the same telks a very personal story about her parents

Wonderful book
Second hand review. Bought for a friend who is a seamstress and craft enthusiast. She explores fabric and vintage clothing shops to find the perfect fabric. She loves the book, it is superbly researched and informative.

Stunning book
A stunning book for anyone interested in fabric or textiles. Very readable with many interesting facts starting with the name of the fabric and it's origin. The book covers centuries from a Neolithic burial silk in China's National Silk Museum to modern man-made fibres. The amount of research for this book is impressive and there are notes on sources, a comprehensive index and a selected bibliography for any reader who wants more information.
