CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS: Due to CA agriculture restrictions, your plants will ship bare-rooted, wrapped in moist sphagnum moss.Staghorn Fern in Pot Platycerium bifurcatum The staghorn fern is an epiphyte, which is normally found growing on the side of trees in its native habitat. The generic name Platycerium comes from the Greek word meaning "broad horn". These plants are grown for their attractive antler-like fronds (leaves). The plant bears 2 types of fronds; the sterile fronds, which are flat, round and located at the base of the fern and the fertile fronds, which are irregular, lobed and usually ascending from the plant. Spores appear as brownish masses on the tips of the antler-like fertile fronds. Staghorn ferns grow best in a high temperature, 60-80°F or higher and will tolerate a low temperature of 50°F. Will grow very well in the low humidity conditions of the average home. These Staghorn Ferns have a 4-6 inch frond-span and are growing in 2.5 to 3 inch plastic pots containing sphagnum moss. Photo for reference only. Also have larger Staghorns in wooden baskets. .

I will need to watch this grow through mid-year of next to see if it is in fact "bifurcatum."
I will need to watch this grow through mid-year of next to see if it is in fact "bifurcatum." Now is appears as pictured and seems to be happy where planted next to one that is about 30 years old. (That is not a typographical error - 30 years old.) We shall see, then update this review.
