Way cheaper than a Integrated Power Control Module
I put this in my 2004 dodge 2500 because the internal, non changeable relay that controls the left trailer break light went out in the IPCM. An IPCM is over $1000. Instead of using the splices that came with this (not good under the bed of the truck where water splashes up), I stripped, crimped and used heat shrink like the factory bed harness is built. The unit works flawlessly, and a much cheaper fix for an older truck.

Truly excellent product
Modulite was very compact, well assembled, and the kit came with all necessary hardware for a most excellent installation. Being a reliability - safety kind of guy, I did cover all wiring with Nylon 6-6 split loom, SOP for vehicle OEM's.

Installation of a 7-pin vehicle-side plug made easy
This was an easy install - taking the vehicle four-lead wiring to the trailer three-lead wiring. The install took about 10 minutes as I had already run the wiring, I just needed to put it between the vehicle wiring and the 7-pin outlet on the bumper.

Works with aftermarket LEDs on vehicle and LED lights on trailer
Works great on my 2003 Nissan Frontier XE Crew V6 5MT, with aftermarket LEDs on the vehicle, and LED trailer lights. Potting gives me confidence that it will last. As others mention, the instructions should make clear that Black is +12VDC and White is Return/Ground.

Check the wiring with a meter
Once installed correctly, the lights work fine. The wiring colors to match on my MINI were wrong, everywhere I looked. I surrendered and connected the battery, checking each wire in the harness and was able to figure out where each needed to go. Now it works fine. The lack of supporting information is why I reduced a star.

Black is positive, White is negative. *shrug*
It’s well built but the instructions give no indication which COLOR wires are for what function. Black wires in DC circuits are typically ground but in this case, it’s +12V. I had cut the ring off before looking at the manual as I planned to wire it into an existing circuit. I was initially confused as to which was what and had to look at several photos online for how it’s installed. Bummer. Just print the wire colors in the manual!

Compact sealed unit that did not work
This is a very compact unit. Easily fit behind my left tail light. It replaced an almost 14 year old unit that came with my 06 Tacoma. The original still operated the trailer lights correctly but the control unit was making a buzzing noise when the lights were on.Unfortunately after installing the Tekonsha unit the tail light (brown) wire at the trailer connector did not have any voltage. Everything else worked but this is a fail big time. Even though I have professionally worked on low voltage equipment for over 40 years I still spent another 30 minutes trouble shooting. I had to re-install the old unit in the dark as I need to pull a trailer tomorrow. Another minor problem was the right turn signal wire was too short to reach the right tail light. A simple splice would be needed but maybe this was intended for smaller vehicles and not a mid-size truck. With all the time spent wiring, splicing and re-install of the old unit it was one strike you're out. Back to the mother ship you go you defective piece of equipment. Unfortunately Tekonsha will not be on my purchase list next time. :(

no problems
Not easiest thing to install. Comes w/ rudimentary instructions. Would be lost without internet advice. Took 5 hours to install but was not familiar w/ modern car construction. Eventually got it to work.

Perfect so far
Works great installed in my benz ml500. Had issues with my last harness blowing fuses. Switched to this one. Only pulled the trailer once so far but it's all working. So far so good.
