Yummy!!
The reviews were right about this classic breakfast & the taste is phenomenal! 👍 After adding the water, mix it well then wrap in a towel or blanket, the longer you leave it then better it tastes plus it won't be crunchy! I just bought 4 more of these cuz they do taste that good, my favorite so far & I have many of these....you gotta try them!!

Army Nostalgia
Way back in the middle of Iraq (haha, that rhymes!) we finally started receiving real food as the convoys caught up. One of my favorite was always the Western Style Eggs. It came in tins as a heat and serve and the only time it was served was in the field or deployment. A lot of the guys hated it, which left me with plenty of leftovers! The Army switched to powdered eggs and breakfast was never the same.Fast forward to 2024 and a few weeks of research, and I think I found the original recipe! I’ll try it out this weekend.

Tastes great to me
Sooo, I added two cups of water and otherwise followed the directions. Then ate the whole dang thing. There are people saying the old recipe is better. I don't know about all that. I guess I never tried the old recipe. This stuff tasted great to me. OK - pretty good. Scrambling some eggs in a skillet with some good bacon would have made a tastier meal, I guess. I like this breakfast skillet stuff. All that said - my friends know that I should never be allowed to choose the menu. I'm one of those eat to live types. Proud of it.

Pretty Good Flavor, Texture is Mixed, Very Convenient & Good for Emergency Supplies
Made in the USA, Mountain House is a known brand for emergency and camping freeze dried foods. This is a new version of their classics and it is bigger than previous pouches with 2 1/2 servings instead of 2 servings. They have gone to a more retro color scheme and sasquatch even makes an appearance on the bottom of the bag with witty quips. My bag has a best by date of October 2051, so just under 30 years.I am no stranger to freeze dried foods. I use freeze dried foods regularly to ensure that I know how to cook with them and I like to make up my own dinners, but I am not against trying prepared pouches either.I decided to try the breakfast skillet today for, well, breakfast. The directions said that one serving was 1 2/3 c of dry or 1 cup wet and when reading the directions, it said to add 2 cups of boiling water to the freeze dried pieces. I misread and thought 2 cups for one serving, so I ended up making the whole pouch once I realized that I added too much water to my 1 2/3c of dry food. Oops!I thought the flavor was pretty good. There is a lot of salt and that is the dominant flavor to me. There is a lot of saturated fat as well, but these are made for times when we would be hiking or using a lot of calories due to a disaster and need the extra energy. I thought the sausage texture was pretty good as well as the peppers. The potatoes were not the long strings that it shows so I couldn't pick those out. The eggs were an interesting texture between a bit rubbery and a little crunchy--which may have been me on the crunchy part and eggs are always a tough food to rehydrate successfully. It does state that this does include bioengineered food ingredients but doesn't specify what those are.I found that for me, 1 cup of prepared breakfast was very filling and I thought it was very palatable--especially if I was in an emergency situation where I needed to eat something fast that I could carry in a BOB that was light. One of these pouches would provide a whole day's worth of food for me and I would not mind eating this one.It does have a warning that it contains Milk, Egg, Soy and Wheat (see the last picture). All in all, I like this and would definitely include this in my BOB as I find it to also be a comfort food at a time when comfort might be a good thing.I would like to see less sodium in this. Also, you might enjoy adding some pepper, garlic, cumin or tabasco to this meal for a nice flavor boost that is easy to take along with the pouch.Recommend giving it a try.
