This Rod dude doesn't know apparently.... No this one does not have the built in gyro to the receiver. It's never the ESC that has the gyro built in, it's the receiver. What does a speed controller have to do with steering

does the reciever turn on when the controller turns on? or how does it power on/off

The receiver is automatically turned on after power on, and then turn on the remote control to automatically link to the receiver
