World's Coolest Rain Gauge Company

Several years ago we purchased one of these rain gauges. For about a month it seemed to work just fine. One night we had a ton of rain dropped on us, this gauge showed about 1/2" of rain. So I went and looked at my neighbors glass gauge, it showed 2.75" of rain! For the next month, I compared every rain event, to see which was more correct. A third neighbor joined in with his glass gauge, of a different type as well. This thing never came close to the other two. So I ordered a new blue plastic gauge, same thing happened. I was fairly accurate for about a month.This is very expensive for something that does not do what it is made to do! If you buy one, remember you were warned!

I didn't buy this from Amazon but I'm writing a review (actually, 2) because I'm so pleased with the company. First, the rain gauge is great--looks great, is accurate and can easily be read from in the house. Second, I had to contact the company because something, probably a raccoon, somehow managed to get the blue cylinder out of the plastic tube. (It soon discovered that it didn't taste good!) I went to the company's website and ordered a replacement for $9.00 The replacement kit comes with two tubes, instructions and glue. It even included the toothpick needed to put glue inside the plastic cylinder! There was no shipping charge and I had the replacement within 3-4 days of ordering it.

Not as cool as I thought it would be for the price. As for easy to read, yeah as easy as any other rain gauges. As for accuracy, haven't had enough rain in Northern California to compare, but, my reservation is, it floats up on synthetic sponges. When I empty it, how do I know all the water drained out?

I bought this as a gift, and it looks like it will be a really nice gauge. I was disappointed that the copper part had a big dent in it though. They need to be better packed for sure. I didn't return it because I gave it as a gift already.

It really is a cool rain gauge. We enjoy checking to see rain totals after spring showers and the copper holding tube will provide many years of use over a plastic tube. Only critique was that the measurements, which are indicated in metric and standard US inches, are a little confusing at first but once you get use to it, it’s not an issue.
