Very funny with crazy illustrations
The children in my Year R class absolutely love this story and pester me to read it to them! Make sure you practise your caveman voice before reading it aloud - it has much more of an impact once you manage to perfect the "me am on the phone" style of speaking used throughout the text. In addition to the humour, there is a positive message about being content with what you already have. The illustrations are absolutely crazy and the children find them hilarious. Even the adults in the unit laugh at this book and specifically come into my classroom just to listen to it being read! I think it would be suitable even for children up to the year 3 or 4 age group, and would make a nice, light hearted alternative read for children learning about the stone age and comparing it to the modern world. This is almost certainly a new class favourite.

Brilliant story especially with voices
After having this read to me in caveman voices by my colleague and literally wetting myself laughing, I had to by it for my 6 year old Grandson. Not sure what he's made of it but his mother (my 29 year old daughter) enjoyed me reading it to her and her friend using my own version of caveman speech. Well worth buying...even if you are 55! Lol

Very, very good
A beautifully and brilliantly illustrated story with a pertinent message - delivered subtly, with humour, in a very funny voice - sure to make readers laugh and reflect!

I love these two!
I wasn't expecting this story about two competitive cavemen, living next door to each other, to develop in the manner it does. I loved it! The tension and competition builds and builds to ridiculous levels before concluding in a satisfying way. Beautifully illustrated (as ever) by David Roberts too. It's a visual feast.

Hilarious!
We rented this book from our library and my daughter loved it so much I bought it her. Its great to put on silly cavemen voices whilst reading, albeit I think I go into a slightly angry samurai voice at times and we both laugh out loud to it.

Great illustrations
I bought this book mainly for the illustrations. While my kids are young enough, I'll buy anything David Roberts illustrates just to buy another thing, and enjoy all the detail and creativity in his contribution. This book did not disappoint in that respect. The text and the story is also good. There's a nice message about "things" not being the be-all and end-all, and about envy and jealousy of others who, on the surface, appear to be like you.

A Cracking Cave Story
The story of two cavemen who are determined to out-do each other, Inch and Grub was an instant hit in our house. As well as laughing at their brinkmanship, we enjoyed Inch and Grub’s wonderfully expressive faces (and hair!) and had great fun doing cave-man voices and looking out for the little mice and (what we think were) wild boars. Lots of demands for repeat reads.
