Oh My Gosh - This story
How I came to find this author and this book. I am currently reading "And Then? And then? What Else?? Daniel Handlers book (aka Lemony Snicket). Highly recommend it's beyond excellent in my mind. Inspiring. He say as I recall his favorite - or one of, this author. I looked her up and under her bio it listed this book and referenced might have, could have, been inspired for movie - The Shape of Water a movie I didn't think or can't remember watching, but did at least see clips. Long story/shorten - got the book, also order the BlueRay dvd. I picked up the book last evening and just started reading somewhere in the middle just before "they" meet. I was completely captivated by the writing and descriptive way it's written, Literally, could not quit. It's just a wonderful, touching, satisfying read. I don't know how this story book ends, and reviewers say the movie is not based on this book and may or maynot have same endings. But the story of two finding and sharing together is so compelling. I'm intentionally not referred to gender, species as it does not seems relevant to my appreciation of this story. It's about connecting to another and just being available and understanding of what life force exists and how beings each have a need for comfort and living a life according to their desire and satisfaction.

Lynchian, in a wonderful, warm way.
I didn't know much before buying this book but I loved it. A strange tale, definitely, a suburban fairytale. I felt it was really a story about the frustrations women can feel in a patriarchal world, and though written in the 80s, it would be fundamentally wrong to feel society has changed by that much that you wouldn't still feel a lot of what this work is saying is still valid. I loved the style of writing, not exactly journalistic but somewhat clipped and to the point. A quick read, yet one which will stay with me for a long time.

Strange
It’s never clear if Mrs C is deluded or actually host to a man sized talking frog. Slightly revolting sex scenes. An excellent book. I think of it every time I see a frog.

Unexpectedly good!
What to say about Mrs. Caliban?!A housewife in a loveless/unfaithful marriage finds herself in a tryst with an escaped frogman from a local science institute. It HAS to be Guillermo Del Toro's inspiration for "The Shape of Water" right?!Straightforward, entertaining, and unexpectedly poignant. Despite how short it was (under 200 pages), it dove deep into the main character's plights as a lonely wife and grieving mother. It read like a short play focused on the nuances of life in terms of relationships, and had a rather wild finish.Highly recommend if the plot even somewhat intrigues you!
